Moved from O2 to Sky and its 3 Meg Slower!!

      Hello,

I recently joined Sky Broadband after being with O2 Broadband for over 15 months at a rather nice speed of 9Meg. I requested my MAC code and went over to SKY expecting to have the same speed as both us ADSL2+. Well I am connecting at 5 Meg and Sky are telling me that this is normal? I have tried to argue that my noise margin is too high but the person did not know what I was talking about.

      What can I do?

As i am still within 2 weeks of my new service can I request my MAC and go back to O2?

We need to see your router stats.

You should be aware that you will be under DLM for the first 10-20 days which is a process Sky use to fine the maximum stable line speed. This may be the reason you have a slower speed at present.

      Stats will help.

If you've recently connected then you're in DLM.

DLM has decided it wants to raise your noise margin/reduce your sync, presumably to counter some line issue it has detected. i.e. your connection has been capped.

DLM may train your line higher than it has currently without you doing anything but I wouldn't hold your breath. Best to get your physical connection as good as you can (into master socket etc) and leave it until you've been connected at least two weeks. If things haven't changed, then call Sky and go through "slow speed troubleshooting".

Now that you've experienced O2 and their service, and now Sky and theirs, I have to ask, why on earth did you leave O2?

you could just call Sky and get them to put the speed back...once you've corrected the setup your end...
