Unhappy Just joined Sky but VERY slow connection

      Hello Forum,
I hope you can help me. I have just joined Sky Broadband (top package) and it was activated yesterday but my speed is around 400k download and the same for upload. I moved from AOL and was getting 1.5mb (when they weren't capping) My line is capable of up to 3.5mb according to SKY website and all the other ISP websites. When I phoned sky they said I can only expect 500k on my line. The tech tried upping it and said the max I would get now is 700k. I phoned BT and there is no problems on the line. I plugged into the test socket and still the same. I said that I may as well go back with AOL as they were quicker, they made no attempt to do anything and is issuing a mac code for me in the next few days. I am really dissapointed as I want to stay with SKY because of the unlimited package but what can I do?
Any suggestions ? I am using the router provided by SKY, I am hard wired to my PC (not wireless). Any settings on my router that I need to check? Might it get quicker in the next few days as I am only just activated? I would have thought the tech would have told me that on the phone though
      Very frustrated, please help

Please post the stats from your router. From your normal position and from the Test socket. Instructions on how to obtain your stats can be found here -
How to get your router statistics

As you have just been connected Line Management will be running on your line, this can take about 10 days to set your line. Posting the stats will allow us to give you an idea of what speed you can expect. Don't take too much notice of agents who tell you you can only get 500kbps, unless you have a very long phone line this will not be correct.

if u were getting 1.5mb on AOL I shudnt see any reason why u shudnt get it with sky.

Let us see your router stats.
If your unsure how to get 'em use link in post above.

Re: Just joined Sky but VERY slow connection

Hope that helps. One thing I will say. I am using the same filters that were on the sockets from AOL. And also the same cables as I didnt see th point of changing them. My main socket is on the other side of the room so use a 10metre cable to connect to router (not an extension cable). This was fine with AOL as stated before I was getting 1.5mb with that setup.

From the Test socket or your normal position? Please post both. Incidently you do have a very long line, but if you had 1.5mb before, you should get it again.

Sorry that result above was from the normal socket. I will post from the test shortly.

Re: Just joined Sky but VERY slow connection

Just to eliminate the possiblity of long cables etc I have used the standard cable provided by sky straight into the filter and used the standard cat cable from Sky so standard cables used. Then plugged my laptop in and got the following results. So although slightly quicker its still not what I was getting with AOL. Should I just wait?

Re: Just joined Sky but VERY slow connection

This looks like a capped figure, so it looks like your line may have some noise problems. Leave it plugged into the Test socket and phone Sky ask them if they can lift the cap on your line. Tell them you had a much better speed with your previous ISP and would like the same. Your noise margin should allow another 1-1.5 Mbs.

If you do manage to get the speed up from the Test socket then something in your internal wiring may be causing the problem.

Your higher noise margin indicates that the extension has been causing a problem.
