Here's hoping IANTE can help you out. It looks like you have a very good line and should get near the maximum for Connect when you are fixed.

      Re: New Slow Speed Problem

Thanks again IANTE - just tried calling them again but after 30 mins on hold got bored! (Not to mention that = about 5 via my mobile on the 0844 number, helplines really should be free or at least you should get credit if you really have a fault!)

Sad as it seems I was hoping they could have sorted this by tomorrow as I have some big guild run on World of Warcraft to do tomorrow, as the main tank it will fall apart if my connection can't handle it! Hate letting my mates down! (How sad that I'm a 32 year old Brand Manager of a worldwide company and I still play games to escape reality )

After looking at the options I'm still debating whether to try O2 as it is half the price and double the speed (in theory!), I just know there's always hassles when you try a simple changeover so maybe it's better the devil you know! Still have no idea why these random things always happen, someone must press buttons to cause these issues somewhere!!

I'm just updating the thread as I'm sat at the PC waiting for a call - nothing new to add really except my thanks to IANTE for his assistance.

      Re: New Slow Speed Problem

Nothing to do with the router, it all down to an incorrect profile that Sky should easily spot and rectify.

For some reason they seem to be trying their best to look totally incompetent.

      Re: New Slow Speed Problem

Well holy Jesus it seems some magic has happened tonight! I don't know if anyone here had a hand in it but sometime this evening everything sped up noticeably, on re-running the test -

      Your DSL connection rate: 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 6595 kbps

So I give my deepest thanks to everyone for their help and hope this isn't just a temporary measure! Cheers guys! Awesome!

To Adam - I have the old Netgear, used it for about a year with no noticeable issues, just changed over from wireless to Netgear 200mbps Homeplugs - which seem to cope better with the streaming speeds (wireless couldn't handle the data rate in busy passages of films streamed through PS3). Though it seems they're not perfect - in downloading U.S. TV Series (at the max 30-50kbps I could achieve over the last week or so!) over long periods they seem to overheat and I get the little yellow "!" on my internet connection indicator - requiring a cooldown and reset to come back to life! I reckon Hard-wired seems the only true way of handling large amounts of data...

      Happily relieved Jim

      Re: New Slow Speed Problem

That is just about the maximum you can expect, I wonder if IANTE gave someone a push

With regards your overheating, you do have the router standing on end on the little 'legs in a clear ventilated area'? In the early days many of these burned out due to lack of ventilation. You are correct about using wire, wireless is convenient for general browsing with a lap top, but for downloading, you can't better a wired connection.

If you are not using Vista, you might be able to squeeze a few more Ks by using TCPOptimiser (link below) to tune your PCs.

      wasn't me, not been in...

makes me wonder, it takes 72hrs for a line to reprofile so just wondering if it was literally waiting to see continuity before raising the speed...

      glad it's done though...
