Re: BT engineer coming to look at my line problem

I am getting exactly the same problem psu300.

I have Sky Mid Broadband on the line (up to 8mb) and have been getting all sorts of crackling on the line - sometimes so bad that I can't hear the person on the other end of the phone and vice versa.

Anyway Sky sent me all new equipment (as they thought it could be my broadband playing havoc) - new router/microfilters/etc - I changed all this and it made no difference.

After doing all their tests and whatever they agreed to send out a BT Open reach engineer - who came last Thursday.

He could hear the noise on his handset and said it was an outside fault - he went out and went up the telephone pole etc and came back after about 45 mins and said he had located a fault underground and he had swapped the cable .... SUCCESS!

For the following six days my telephone line was clear and my broadband was perfect speed/no dropping out.

Then this morning I picked the phone up to make a telephone call .... the noise was back .... argh!!

Have been back onto Sky who are arranging another engineer to come out within the next couple of days.

Lets hope I have more joy this time ....

Re: BT engineer coming to look at my line problem

When I had a fault on the exchange it took an engineer to locate it and fix it and 3 days later another BT engineer swapped our working card for somebody elses duff one.

Sounds like you could have been swapped back if somebody else started complaining about a fault on their line.

I emailed Sky concerning my speed issue. asking them to check the line.I recieved this reply.

Thank you for contacting Sky Help Centre.
I have checked the speed your line is configured to and it is 8448kbps however it is only training in at 7876kbps.
I have spoken to our customer solutions team who have reconfigured your line to 8096kbps and it is training in at this speed. This is the highest speed your line can attain.

Re: BT engineer coming to look at my line problem

That is the highest speed you can obtain as they have moved you back to G.DMT, probably in an attempt to stabilise your line. I don't think there is any doubt that your line has a fault or faults which is dragging your speed down.

Re: BT engineer coming to look at my line problem

To be honest ,i did think that when my phone wires were moved to a spare set on the pole, my speed would have improved.

Never mind, i can always give the engineer a call,as he gave me his mobile number if i was still having problems.

That is a low speed for your attenuation, if you have one you could try the test socket and see if the noise margin increases if it does then you could get uncapped.

Re: BT engineer coming to look at my line problem

You could try it in the Test socket, but I think it is just your ongoing line problems. Has it settled down again? If so it may have been engineers working on or near your line.

      @Andy17
Sky moved to line to G.DMT to try to stabilise it, that is why it syncs at 8Mb.

The Master socket was replaced by the first engineer, the filtered faceplate was replaced by the second engineer.
