Hmm - I guess it could be the socket at fault but it's a shame he didn't run more comprehensive tests. Let's hope that's it.

You're not going to continue to use that filter in the second photo I hope?

I think you should leave well alone for a few days and see if the fault has cleared. If it has then re-fit the filter faceplate and see what happens then, If the fault returns the answer is obvious, if not then the socket may well have been the problem, I have fixed a few that have had broken soldered joints or a poor test socket.

Did the Openreach tech leave the old master socket? If you wish I will give it the once over, repair if necessary, and return it to you. no charge. PM me if interested.

Re: BT engineer coming to look at my line problem

      Hi psu300,
      A couple of questions,
Is your phone line fed to your house overhead?
if it is, did the openreach Engineer climb the pole to check your Line?
If your line is fed underground, it can be difficult to locate intermittent noise
      Just curious
      Paul

Re: BT engineer coming to look at my line problem

I know where Paul is coming from and for an intermittant fault, a look at the overhead connections often pays off, but never mind, how is your BB holding up now? is it very windy? is there a buzzard sitting on your line?
