Since they don't have any mobile phone capability I doubt it.

Even though Sky dont have their own mobile phone service, don't rule out mobile broadband just yet.

Sky has a corporate contract with vodafone. Now, I know at the moment this is just for Staff mobiles, however, I have heard a couple of rumours that when the contract comes up for renewal this year, they will be looking for a corporate partner who may be willing to expand into mobile broadband for customers.

Nothing definitive, but i'm sure Sky would love the chance to add another product to their line up.

Worth listening out for i reckon.

Re: ARe sky going to be offering mobile broadband soon?

I was looking into mobile BB for my parents laptop as there was some attractive pricing on it last year.

With the current pay as you go and contract offerings it is still quite expensive (about 10 per month with a 1gig download limit) so good for very light users on the go.

I have only seen it offered by the owners of the main networks (O2, 3, orange, T-mobile etc) I assume that the price that they would charge other people on their network for the airtime is still just too expensive.

Also why would Sky want to move into the mobile phone market? It is a cutthroat business, they would have to tie themselves into a network (most likely T-mobile as they seem to have a lot of the 3rd party suppliers with them. They would certainly have to subsidise it for quite a while from the other parts of the business.

Virgin have started an offer, buy their broadband and get 1GB mobile broadband for 5.

      This may be their incentive.

I've not heard anything about specifically going to mobile phones, but they are considering mobile broadband for the reason that customer can then watch Sky anywhere through Sky player. I know Sky player works through pretty much any broadband service, be it mobile or home, but it makes sense to the high-ups that customers will want Sky Mobile broadband as well.

Plus, a few of the gullible may think that having Sky Mobile broadband will give them better service. This was the case when broadband started, a lot of old people were getting broadband cause they thought that it helped with their TV. I had to cancel a fair few folk becuase they didn't have computers.

Having your own network is not a necessity to be a mobile phone service provider! Look at Virgin Mobile, it's a virtual network based on T-Mobile...

and since virgin mobile have a mobile bb deal we must assume that tmobile have a deal with them.

I personally hope they offer a cheap (5 1GB) mbb deal.
