      If your noise margin stays up in double figures you could ask them to remove the cap completely, you might see that 5Mb yet.

      Yeah, I did mention that to him last night, but he really did not want to push it, and heck, I am pretty happy having 4mbps again after living at 0.38mbps for so long! Unless I feel I need the extra speed I will probably leave it now. As we kind of know, he said thiings can become unstable around a 6 or 7db margin.

      I think sometimes they are a bit conservative, unless your line has a history of problems, there is no need to cap it at all. If you line has a history of sudden noise spikes, which the router cannot handle without dropping the connection, then I can see the point of capping.
