      Re: Speed problems

You are on connect which seems to be oversubscribed or at least over used by some. Speeds at peak times are suffering with many people posting on another thread about this, you may want to add yours to the list.

edit: my results from the the router control pannel(router staus) and speedtest.net never match...it always seemed to happen about 5-6 but today its been going on alot earlyer, maybe because its the weekend and people are off work.

Have a look at this thread, you are not alone with your problems.
Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

I meant to add, your download speed will never match your sync speed due to line overheads. You should get about 85% of the sync speed. Speedtest.net, is not to be believed.

      Re: Speed problems

Ignore the 1.4Gb per day limit, this problem is affecting ALL connect customers but gamers will see the worst of it as they don't use a huge amount of bandwidth but do require a good stable ping with no lost packets.

Gamers are really getting the short end of the stick.

Sky either need to jump on the heavy downloaders, sort out their traffic shaping to give priority to the gamers or buy more capacity.

I cannot understand why Sky would let this continue, they will suffer with their reputation if they don't, I remember Plusnet having a similar problem before BT bought them out and because of it lots left and their name will forever be tarnished in many peoples books. I for one would never use them and I wasn't even with them

In terms of download limits etc they shouldn't but in terms of prioritising packets gamers rely of a swift send and receive (as you know) so it would do no harm in letting them get through first, for downloaders/surfers this would hardly be noticable, for the gamers it would make a huge difference.

This would only need to be done in times of a heavy load, during normal running you shouldn;t need to do it. The problem is Sky haven't yet chose to find a soloution to the capacity issue (as you know again).

      Re: Speed problems

well last night i got a little shock and thought my internet was fixed got these results:

Upto 4:30pm my download speed was about 3500 then the same old story:

On the phone today i told sky i cant really game from 5pm onwards as my speeds drops that much, all they had to say was its bt thats caping me and i need to stay off the internet for 48 hours for the problem to be fixed but they could try and get bt to fix my mad pings!
