    Connection is crawling...

      Connection is crawling...

      Right I can't handle it anymore, I am sick and tired of it. I've phoned Sky, they fobbed me off saying they tested the line and to leave it 72 hours to wait for the BRAS profile to update. Now the modem has been connected at 1xxxkbs for weeks, it can change speed now and then though.

      Right now the speed and stats are as follows:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
      Connection Speed 1056 kbps 448 kbps
      Line Attenuation 62.0 db 31.5 db
      Noise Margin 16.6 db 17.0 db

      The internet speed is slow I cannot load pages sometimes, or it will take an age. VOIP doesn't work, gaming doesn't work and forget about streaming anything. Speedtest result comes up as 120kbps download and 330kbps upload.

      Sky say theres nothing else they can do but for me to wait for my BRAS profile to update, is there any truth in this? Tomorrow is the 3rd day when I call back to say I told you so, it done nothing to help.

      Fisrt off with line stats like that your not going to get a great speed ,
      As for the bras profile yes thats right ,
      Rambo sets your profile and this is linked to your sync speed at the time ,
      How ever the profile can take up to 72 hours after getting a higher sync speed before it will change ,

      But if you sync speed dropped that low you get a profile of 135 i would check the set up again ,

      I am not expecting great speeds, however I expect more than the speed I am getting. I can't do anything on the connection, loading sites, voip, games, streaming anything. Before I had speeds around 120-150kb/sec download speed. Now it's about 15kb/sec max if I am lucky. Gaming... my latency is unplayable, it just laggs out.

      What I don't understand is the router was connected at a high speed for over a week and still no change to my profile etc.. And I will echo again I know the line is bad and I don't expect amazing speeds just what I DID have before.

      Go to

      Test Result

      Enter your phone number & when asked enter the mac address for the router with @SKYDSL after it ,

      Run these tests morning afternoon & night ,
      This test will tell you your profile and speed ,
      Post your profile and speeds ,

      Last night :

      Your DSL connection rate: 1056 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
      IP profile for your line is - 135 kbps
      Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 45 kbps

      Today:

      Your DSL connection rate: 1056 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
      IP profile for your line is - 135 kbps
      Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 87 kbps

      And thanks I have been reading every bit of information on the site, I have a better understanding and idea of whats wrong.

      You just have to keep pestering Sky to reset your stuck IP profile, assuming you havent had any disconnections recently.
      I was in the same boat a while ago, (I also currently have a stuck profile after replacing a faulty faceplate) it took a few phone calls but was eventually sorted.

      After speaking to them the other night they said give it 72 hours for your bras profile to update. I take this as they have done that?

      When I initially had the problem, I eventually got through to CST and somebody who understood what the problem was, they told me to wait 72hrs (even though my connection was solid for over a week).
      Within minutes of the phone call ending, my profile was reset. Coincidence? Who knows.

      By the way, I use Router Stats to monitor my connection, it's a good tool and can help to show up any problems.
