      speed slowdown needing reboot??

      hi
i'm on sky broadband max and get download average of 7000 and upload of 600. quite happy with this but just lately the speed keeps noticibly dropping during a session on the net (no heavy usage of film downloading).
subsequent speed test on bbmax shows download speed dropping to as low as 600.
if i restart my laptop and reboot the netgear wireless router all comes back on fine..........until next time!!
this never used to happen, and its damn annoying.
      any advice greatly appreciated.
      TIA.

Sounds like a wireless problem - probably a new source of wireless interference in the vicinity. This is corrupting data and causing the router to have to retransmit it. This then snowballs.

Make sure your router is up off the floor and away from any large metallic or electrical items (including other cables) and experiment with different wireless channels - start at 13 and work down.

am currently on channel 10 (and have been since this was set up originally as my old cordless phones interferred with default channel).
i have recently changed my cordless phones (still bt but different model), could this be the cause.
also could you tell me how i change the channel please and do i need to change settings on all computers linked to router wirelessly as well?
sorry, don't know much about this subject.
      thanks again.

Quite likely. Keep the phone base station as far away as possible from the router and your PCs/laptops.

You'll find the wireless settings in the router admin pages. Type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar of your browser, click go (or whatever) and then enter admin as user and sky as password in the prompts. If you change channels in the router your other devices should detect this and adjust themselves automatically.
