If you can get your line noise down you should be able to get 9-10Mb with that attenuation.

Yes, I think you still have noise problems on the line, you should be syncing at twice that. Probably better to run it for a few days and see how it goes.

Re: Cant take this slow speed any more

ok, so far the speed is still round what it was as previously posted, although i am happy with that as for the last year the best speed i have seen was a dismal 500kbps.... i am now concerned about this noise problem you have pointed out ... and the fact that the two of you think i should be syncing twice what i am currently.... what are my next steps for resolving this
the last thing i want thou is for the speed to drop down again cos last year really sucked with unbearable speeds.... i have a lot of trust in you guys about this as i have results from the advice i have taken from yourselfs and thanx again

It is possible there is a fault on your external line that has not been detected, if there is there is little you can do about it as you say it has been checked by BT.

What you can try, is removing the filtered faceplate from your master socket and plug a filter into the Test socket, then the router only. Try the stats from there and see what he result is. There is a very slim chance that the faceplate is faulty, this would rule that out.

Re: Cant take this slow speed any more

ok before going on to trying it through the test socket i just checked my stats and this is what i got

      System Up Time: 53:30:53
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 7240 9733 0 0 0 0:45:21
      LAN 15 0 0 0 0 53:30:53
      WLAN 1598284 973518 0 0 0 53:30:25

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2912 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 42.0 db 28.0 db
Noise Margin 7.8 db 8.0 db

is there any reason for the drop in speed

i will do some syncs through the test socket now
