Re: In Need of some Help

As i stated above I have not tested from the main socket yet.

The Diagram I posted is complicated but so is the set up. Basically we have one phone number that serves two phones, one upstairs and one downstairs. They both run on the same line. Also on that line is our broadband.

The Main socket is in the wall and in the main socket is what I would call a two way splitter with a wire coming from it. In each of the splitter socketts there is an ADSL filter, one goes to the Sky+ box and the other goes to the downstairs phoneline. The Wire on this "splitter" leads upstairs to another socket in my mothers room. From this socket there is an ADSL filter plugged in with the phone part going to the upstairs phone, and the modem part of the adsl filter going to my router.

As I said it is a very complicated set-up and to simplify it I would have to plug an ADSL filter into the main socket, then a 3 way splitter into the phone side with wires running to the Sky+ box, the downstairs phone, and the upstairs phone. Then run a cable up through the ceiling to the router from the modem side. This would be a simpler version of my set-up but to do so would involve purchasing new cabling, a 3 way splitter, and removing older wiring which would be a last resort really and I would probably have to call in an expert to ensure it was correctly set-up

Edit: Yes a double adapter would be a good way of describing it, however said "double adapter" has a wire running from it that goes to a socket upstairs.

I plan on testing from the test socket soon.

Cool, post your stats from the test socket, fingers crossed should be a lot better.

To test the test socket what exactly do I need? I figure I need The Router, The Laptop, The Ethernet from the Router to Laptop, THE ADSL Filter, and a smaller Ethernet from the Filter to the Router?

Definitely internal wiring I think. Results from test socket:

When I asked my mother about the wiring she said my dad installed it over 20 years ago. He isn't around anymore and did a lot of DIY to this place. Im pretty sure I can solve it though by replacing the 20 year old wiring he had for the phone line and tayloring it for broadband.

So your diagram is wrong then as you show only one ADSL filter with the phone plugged in the the telephone side and the Sky+ plugged into the internet side.
I've just spent half an hour typing out a reply based on that information.

      Good luck.

Re: In Need of some Help

Sorry to hear your dad is no longer around, but sorting your wiring is not hard. Have a good read of the Filter and Faceplate section to start with.
Had another look at your diagramm and it would appear that the sky box is on the unfiltered side of the filter. so could you disconnect the phone line from it and re-try a speed test from your normal position. You will still need to sort your wiring (the ring line in the feed upstairs needs atention for a start) but the results may be better.

Re: In Need of some Help

I did a speed test with the faceplate on:

I then decided I would confirm the problem as the 20 year old wire by performing a speed test on the socket in my mothers room and was surprised to find this:

It appears as if the 20 year old wire only loses 200kb of that speed, meaning it is the cable between my room and my mothers that is the problem. That cabling is the newest i the entire house. But I will perform a speedtest on my computer on that wire in the next 10 minutes and report back.

      Edit:
      Test from my room:
