HI FELLOW SKYERS,
please be careful with me first post.....
i have a black sky router one of these types Sagem Sky Broadband wireless router BNIB on eBay, also Wireless Routers Access Points, Wireless Networking, Networking, Computing (end time 01-Feb-09 16:29:44 GMT).. in my bedroom which is a rear upstairs ..and the problem is i am getting a poor signal strength when using my laptop downstairs...
i have set the router up in the bedroom and it is connected to my desktop with a ethernet cable so that i think i get a quicker response when gaming.
the router is connected to the phone line extentsion box that runs on a ext cable from the main phone socket that comes in down stairs.
1.is there any way you can boost the wirless signal strength, can i had another router...or do i need a stronger sky router.
2.i do have two old bt hubs router(could i use theses) iknow perhaps a silly question...
ps i really do not want to move my router downstairs do to the fact that the roles will be reversed and that the desktop will have a weak conncetion.....

Re: Help(newbie)the router is connected to the phone line extentsion box that runs on a ext cable from the main phone socket that comes in down stairs.
With your wireless problem, you can try changing the channel on the router. Start at 13 and work your way down through the channels till you find the best one. You can also experiment with the orientation of the router, turn it round, sit it flat, upside down and on end.
You should also consider using Homeplugs, with these your router can be in the best position possible to give you the best speed.

i have changed the channels on the router ..it was set to auto it is now on channel 9...
in respect of the wirless problem i have tried to change the way it is situated and i still get 2 bars on my laptop (windows vista) and it not made any difference.....
i do except that i may loose some bandwith due to the extension cable(telephone)been run to the upstairs room....
would it be better to have the router in the downstairs room plugged into the master socket and then have my desktop wireless upstairs...?..but will the signal be the same.......
is there any other way of strength the signal...?

The very best option is to fit a filtered faceplate to the master socket and sit the router there, then using homeplugs you can connect the PC up as if it was wired in.
That will give a good connection with no interference and improve you connection, your speed and any lag you may get with wireless.
