Lightbulb "Hi" from another connected user.

      Hi all,

Been reading this site for a little while and finally got round to registering. I contributed this unregistered post last week.

Since then I've finally got my router and got online. So far I'm seriously unimpressed. First there was the almighty hassle with actually getting the router, which was only resolved when I drove the hour-and-a-half round trip to pick it up from the depot. Looking back I note that in the 20-30 calls I made to Sky between getting activated and getting my router, not a single one of their representatives actually helped me. Every promise made was false or broken, every assurance was in vain. Even the three people who replied to my message to james.murdoch CC customercare I haven't heard from since.

Now that I've got it though I'm underwhelmed. The service isn't close to the 16mbps, I normally sync at 6, no faster than 7. I'm still reading up on this forum about speeds though, and hope that I can either tinker with this to improve it, or that it will settle down in time.

The other problem I'm having is there seems to be some sort of idle disconnect on my router. Several times over the weekend I got up from the PC only to come back and find I was disconnected from everything. The only way I found to get back was to actually reset the router! Is this normal?

Currently I'm trying to decide if I should cancel within the eight days (I'm sure I read somewhere this was the cancellation period) and go back to my old reliable 2mbps connexion.

      Thanks for listening!

      Welcome to the site GlumReaper

Sorry to read about all your troubles and I can only hope that now you are connected things will improve for you.

As for your connection problems have a look at the Sky Router (Netgear DG834GT) stickies there is a lot of very good advice in them and you may all so want to try running TCPOptimizer you can get that here Optimising your Broadband Connection

It would also be helpful if you could post your router stats.

If you are not sure how to do this login clicking on this link

      http://192.168.0.1 A little box will pop-up
      the default username/password is admin/sky
then you will be on the Router Status page look at the bottom and you will see a button Show Statistics click on that and a pop-up window will give you all the info you need.

Some Advice.. Its always advisable to inform your old ISP as soon as you have migrated that you have moved.
