Question question about 12 month contract

Hi. I have had sky broadband for over 2 years. In the first year i was on the 8mb mid package then downgraded to the 2mb base package in the 2nd year.

I want to cancel broadband this month but want to reactivate it in a few months time. My question is will i be locked into a 12 month contract when i do sign up again?

The reason i ask is because i spend some months away (therefore dont want to pay for broadband when i am not around) and some months i am at home (need broadband). Will i be be able to sign up and cancel broadband repeated times during the year without any penalties?

      Any ideas?

Re: question about 12 month contract

I believe you would start a new 12mth contract.

However base is free (and will continue to be free dependent on the rest of your sky package), so why cancel?

i was not planning on cancelling however sky will start charging 5 for the base package if you do not take sky talk as well (which i do not want to do).

Re: question about 12 month contract

depending on how heavy your usage is, if you want to start and stop using broadband during the year you could always consider a mobile internet dongle from 3.

They do a pay as you go option for 10 / month with a 1Gigabyte download limit, as it is pay as you go you can start and stop whereas Sky would hold you to a 12 month contract.

      The dongles cost 40-50 though.

Re: question about 12 month contract

thanks for the suggestion... i do download quite large files so may not be an economical solution.

If i signed up for the 5/month base package and i was in a 12 month contract, is possible to move up to the mid package for 1 month and then drop back down to the base without any issues?

Re: question about 12 month contract

Sky will not let you downgrade the package without good reason, ie you cannot achieve the speed.

You will have to pick one and stick with it for the 12 months.
