HELP 2 laptops and 2 different speeds??

Hello everyone, excellent site but maybe someone can help me out.

Ive just upgraded to sky bb max and on my g/friends asus eee pc,download speed is a respectable 13-14 mb download compared to 1.5mb we got on bb base.

On the other hand,My dell inspirion 6000 laptop which has an intel 2200 bg wireless card gives 3mb download speed tops (even though it says connected at 54mps and signal is excellent.)
On ethernet i get 13-14 mb so is there any way to get this card to work faster,(ive installed all the latest intel drivers)
or can someone recommend a usb wi fi dongle that they know gets the best speed out of the sagem router?

      Thanks in advance Richie

To be honest with you I would suggest that you ditch the Wi-Fi and get some power line lan connectors instead.

I am sure that you can get a lot more out of your wi-fi but it is by far the least stable and most problem prone method of connecting to the router.

Hope someone can help you with the speed issue in the meantime.

      Regards

Wireless is unreliable. Especially with Downloading.

You will/ should find that when you connect the Ethernet cable it'll be much faster!

      in the meantime try:

Open Browser > Clear address bar & type 192.168.0.1
      User: admin
      Pass; sky

Click Setup > Wireless settings > Change Channel to 13 > Click apply on bottom of screen.

      Should help a bit...

11/54/108/300 Mbps is just the wireless connection from the laptop to the router nothing more ,

As for the speed if you post your line stats we can give more advice ,
Ok you mite be able to get a access speed if 13Mpbs but this does not mean you line can take it and there could be errors on the line causing the throughput to seem slower than it should be ,

Re: HELP 2 laptops and 2 different speeds??

Cheers for the replys, heres the stats on the dell laptop intel 2200 bg wireless

      System Up Time: 30:05:03
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 30302 35876 0 0 0 13:15:27
      LAN 69996 63931 0 0 0 30:05:03
      WLAN 257933 183766 0 0 0 30:04:36
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15045 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 29.5 db 13.8 db
Noise Margin 8.1 db 15.5 db

      Thats using http://192.168.0.1/sky_router_status.html

when i do a speed test off this site it says

We have detected that your ISP is Sky - Your current download speed is 3136Kbps, and your current upload speed is 556Kbps.

It seems like the sky results give the router speed not connected speed,im getting a bit confused but to me it looks like sky is fine speedwise its just my wireless card isnt making the best use of the signal?

Would a different wifi adapter improve things? As i said originally my g/friends eee pc is getting 13mb wirelessly no problem so it has to be my laptop doesnt it!?

Anyone else use intel 2200 bg wireless card and get higher than 3mb download?

      Cheers Richie

You can try all the channels, but be careful you do not upset the GF by knocking out her connection.

The router stats show the speed your are connected to the exchange. Your download speed, using ethernet, should be at least 85% of this. Run TCPOptimiser, link below, if you are not running Vista.

That's good to hear, many users of XP do not realize they could do much better with a few minutes spent with this tool.
