Yes and No. Yes connecting direct to the A-B terminals of the Master line box is the best way to go. As Brian said in the other thread, the fewer joints you have the better. And no, unless you intend hardwiring extensions to the Master socket, there is little point in fitting a filtered faceplate. A plug in filter is completely adequate.

If you have the filterplate it will do no harm to use it, it does look tidier than a plug in filter.

You should see a higher margin, but how higher it is impossible to say, until you actually try it.

Re: Is this a noisy line?

Hopefully you will not have to call BT. If you do, tell them it was like that when you moved in, that you have just fitted a new faceplate, which you are allowed to do.

How are you getting on with the master re-location Matt? A filter faceplate won't do any harm but as Tom say's it prob won't be any better than a normal plug-in one. Still as you've got one now you will be all set if you ever want to wire any extension sockets.

Re: Is this a noisy line?

      Hi Brian,

Cant do it yet as its throwing it down with rain here. I cant tell them it was like that when we moved in as we had to pay 125 in July 2008 for them to put it in as the previous owners must have cut the drop cable outside.

Re: Is this a noisy line?

Don't get too hung up about BT. They do not keep records about the location of every master socket they fit! The main concern is that you make a good job of the re-location, then they will not need to enter your home.
You are concerned about your noise margin. It's quite normal for it to be higher during daylight hours and for it to drop at night, overhead lines like yours are more prone to this than underground lines, it does not mean there is a fault with the line
