I cant as im upstairs and the router is downstairs.

I am actually moving the master socket upstairs tomorrow and just connecting the exterior dropwire directly into the master socket (as advised by someone on here) and will get better speed apparantly

Ok, I had a quick read of that thread so hope it all goes with the move of the socket.

Wired is a much better performer than wireless.

ADSL2+ doesnt like low Noise margins because its not as stable a G.DMT...

G.DMT is far more stable... but with your line attenution you should be seeing 16mb on max product and full whack on mid

Wireless is never as fast as ethernet. You are unlikely to get anything like your maximum speed. The speedtest.net tester is not accurate, grossly over estimating at times. Use the SkyUser Tester.

Wait till you get your line sorted as advised by Brian. Then take your stats from the new position.

These were taken by logging into the router admin and im using wifi

Thats with no extensions in the house , just from the drop cable to the master socket (via a junction from external cable to internal cable)

I was thinking of going for the adsl2 and wondered if i would get them speeds or is this classed as a quiet line and i would get them speeds?

      Matt

The noise margin on download now is 9db instead of 7db as it was last night.

Havent doner anything to the line yet?

Why would it change to that?

      Hi,

Just checked again and the noise margin is now 11db.

      Why?

Re: Is this a noisy line?

As the line gets quieter the noise margin will rise. If you check it again later during the peak period you will find it has gone down again. That is how it is supposed to work, there is nothing to worry about. What you want to see, is a high margin during the peak period, which you will probably get when you fix your line. You can then go for Max with no worries.

      Hi,

So is it best to hardwire the external cable directly into the mastersocket and fit one of them filtered fronts to the socket?

Will i then get the best noise margin?

      Matt
