Re: Is my upload speed normal?

if you go to an online speedtester - like the one on this site - with an 8Mbps connection you'd get a downstream of about 7000kbps and an upload of about 300kbps

downloading from a site such as microsoft you'd expect to get around 700KB/sec using IE and if uploading a file to rapidshare you'd get about 35KB/sec...

take the speed results in my signature...

when downloading from the internet - say an mp3 - i get about 500KB/sec...and I upload to rapidshare at about 40KB/sec...

      I have sync @ 5500kbps down/448kbps up

I just don't understand how you manage to obtain a higher upload speed than i do, even if your connection speed is slightly slower.
Is it because of my noise ratio, location and other aspects? Should i just give up and accept that this is all i'll get? [:

Re: Is my upload speed normal?

well, going by your speed test it's exactly what i said!!

there's nothing wrong with your connection...you have exactly the upload you'd expect on Sky...

^ that's yours and as you can see it's about the same as mine...except i have a slightly faster upload as i'm on Connect (448kbps) as opposed to Mid (416kbps)

You should be uploading at about 340kbps, or 43KB/ps. If you check you upload on 2 or 3 other testers and it comes out about the same, I would be suspecting the server you are uploading to is limiting your speed.

Re: Is my upload speed normal?

      Just another question.

While I'm uploading something, is it normal for my downstream to almost completely cease? Internet pages won't load, i can't establish new connections (such as xbox live) until the upload is complete.
Like when i upload a youtube video or an ftp file; Internet access is pretty much nogo until the upload finishes.

Re: Is my upload speed normal?

it's known to do this, yes...as browsing obviously sends a request to the web, if you're saturating your connection with an upload it can take an age to do anything...

perhaps Max might've been better for you...
