Also check that in Internet Explorer is not set to work offline, do this by opening Internet Explorer and click file and make sure "work offline" is unticked.

      Re: internet connection

well if you cannot open internet explorer then you need to reinstall it/restore the default browser settings/download a new browser like firefox and try it. if you are able to open up internet explorer and you just meant that you couldnt connect via internet explorer then pleaser check in the file menu to see if it is working offline(if so then remove the tick). you could also disable your windows firewall(control panel) and any firewalls you have installed(e.g mcafee/norton).

i think the easiest way to resolve the issue would be to ask the kids what they did when they used the computer and if they changed any settings.

      Re: internet connection

Very often the simplest solution is the best. Click the Network(monitors) icon in the System Tray and click Repair or Diagnose and Repair if it is Vista.

If this does not work, download and run Download WinSockFix 1.1.0.13 - WinSockFix - A free Winsock/Tcp repair utility - Softpedia

Obviously you would need to download this to a USB stick on a working connection.

Note - When downloading always select the Custom install or you will end up with stuff you don't want.
