Are Sky gonna upgrade their speeds to *try* and compete with VM?

This is a discussion on Are Sky gonna upgrade their speeds to *try* and compete with VM? within the Sky Broadband help forums, part of the Sky Broadband help and support category; or BE(there) either (been thinking about switching anyway). Basically, what kinda speeds can they achieve with ADSL ?...

ADSL2+ has a theoretical maximum sync of 24meg (but ~22meg in the real world). You can bond two ADSL2+ connections together (needs two lines and the ISP to support it) giving a theoretical 48meg. I think Be are trialling it at the moment.

Saturday is right that theoretically you can get ~50Mbps on ADSL2+ but with ADSL2+ technology it is all dependant on distance and quality of the line.

VM Cabled areas will always outdo ADSL in that respect as fibre optic cables carry the same speed regardless of the line distance.

Has anybody in a VM area been told that they can have the 50 meg/sec product as it's not in ours.

My friend who lives just down the road (I have Sky and he has VM) just got 50mbit today. 50mbit down, 1.6mbit up (5mbit up by the end of the year). I hate him so much

Yeah but doesn't that package cost 50+ a month? Personally I'm not that jelous at that price.
