      Sky Mid - Disconnecting and slow speed should i upgrade? - Help!!

      Hi,

      Iv been using sky broadband for around 2-3 months now, when it was first installed i had no probelms, my connection was fast and rarely disconnected. At this time there was one computer connected to the network.

      However in the last 2 months I have had increasingly large amounts of disconnection and slow speeds. The biggest problem is that my interent will randomly disconnect then come back online a few minutes later or it will go off and be able unable to reconnect for up to 20 mins. Since this has started happening there is now regulary 1 PC, 1 xbox (usually connected to xbox live but not actually playing games online, just using the menu's) and 1 laptop connected to the internet.

      I have looked at various posts on this forum and at first i thought it was the sky router that was at fault, i have considered buying a new router and seeing if it is just a problem with the sky supplied one however i read about the sky useage limits and wondered if this is the reason for my disconnections? Although i do suffer a small amount of disconnections during the day time i find the most frequent is at the night time. If i was to upgrade to the max package would this stop the disconnecting and the slow internet speeds?


      at the time of writing this my download speed is 600kbs, line attenuion is 41 and noise margin is 14

      Again just to reiterate, does anyone know if the max package would remove not only my speed cap but would it also help to stop disconnections at busy times of the day. I dont want to pay extra for speed if im still continoulsy going to disconnect. Thx.

      DLM seems to of capped you.

      You could always phone up and ask about it but going to the max package wont allow you to gain more speed.

      With your attenuation you should be able to receive in and around 3-4 Mb.

      Speed wouldn't cause the disconnects and I doubt if it's usage limits either. Can you post a full set of stats from your normal telephone socket and if possible via the test socket.

      Connection Speed 4401 kbps 382 kbps
      Line Attenuation 39 db 23 db
      Noise Margin 11 db 22 db

      Thats correct as of 14.05, last night as of around 10.30 the connection was stable but still capped at 01.30.
