Nothing wrong with download synch speed, there was an issue on a couple of exchanges last night that impacted throughput and the issue is still ongoing.

Paul, the problem's actually been going on for about for a few users for approx 6 weeks or so now. It appears that the maintenance that they have done may have affected other user's such as the OP.

It may not even be that Issue, I speak to loads of people who have a slow speed problem and its down to something on the machine.

Re: Sky BB - Max Package Speeds

I doubt it is the throughput issue, his speedtest seems to quick for that. Speed test sites are notorious for showing poor speeds, I don't really know why they bother, all they seem to do is give incorrect results causing people to think that they are worse off than they actually are.

I know I can max out my line at 16.4Mb, using large downloads and usenet, here are my speed results:-

      From Skyuser speedtest:- 15 January, 2009 11:11:46 13616 Kbps 637 Kbps
This is one of the better sites

      From Speedtest.net:-

So according to them I've lost nearly 3Mb overnight, I know I havn't though

This is dont at a quiet time of the day, I've seen speeds reported as low as 6Mb from Speedtest.net, it really does suck but everyone seems to use it.

If you have not already done so and are not running Vista, download and run TCPOptimiser, link below. This will ensure that your connection is working as well as possible. Previous to Vista, Windows was not optimised for broadband. Apologies if you are using a Mac.

Edit - Just to clarify, this was directed at the OP.

Re: Sky BB - Max Package Speeds

With Sky LLU, using a poor wireless connection or an overloaded speedtest server are the two most common reasons for slow throughput compared to sync.

Assuming it's a Sky network problem should be WAY down the list.

Is this wired or wireless? What speed do you get using Skyuser's speeedtester?
