They seem to tell everyone that it's BT doing the throttling, but they also dont tell you that BT will only throttle when they are told to do so by the ISP.....and that ISP is of course SKY. Too easy to pass the blame to BT and sky support will NOT help for the simple reason that they can't. It is a deliberate throttling and you're being told they are doing all they can to assist you. In fact all they are doing is taking your money month after month for a sub standard service and you can only help yourself by leaving. There is no way round it and if you're daft enough to stay and pay them for nothing then fair play. I sure won't
there's a lot NOT true there...

BT have no say in the throttling, Sky have tools they setup which does it for them - BT only provide the central...and BT have NO right talking to you about another ISP - ever thought they just want you back??...

it's not a sub-standard service - we're just all used to Connect before they started to enforce the usage policy. people got used to blatantly breaking the rules and those few have affected all of us...

now, my connection is back to normal - don't know why but I get better speeds during peak times then ever before...

I hope that's a general finding across all customers and not just Sky using a QOS tool for Sky staff connections to keep them happy/quiet

. . . . and before anyone grabs that as fact, it's not, just me pointing out that the tools Sky have available will include QOS (quality of service) which will assure that certain users have priority on the network. I wouldn't be surprised if senior managers within the organisation have that activated. However, I doubt (and would be appalled) if all Sky staff did.

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

      Morning all,

After 1 month of really bad speeds i have called sky and got my MAC code to move to o2 broadband. I spoke to a guy in northern ireland who also had connect and said his has become unuasble for youtube and the like after 5pm. Strange though as he never mentioned anything about the rest of the contract. In my view since having sky mid 20 months ago and then moving house to a connect region i never signed a new contract i just moved product as i was forced to if i wanted to remain with sky. We shall see if i get a huge bill for 11 months worth of 17 but i won't know for a while i guess. I hope O2 is alot better in the evenings!

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

I think a lot of this problem is down to exchange contention. Sky are no doubt throttling, but if the exchange is very busy, where there are too many users trying to use to few connections, it makes the situation worse. This could account for some users (IANTE for one) seeing very little difference whereas others have a very slow connection. It would be interesting to compare speeds of users on a particular exchange.

Plusnet have a system where users on their unlimited product are guaranteed a minimum speed for the different types of application, with gaming being given priority. It is a pity Sky cannot do the same.

eek, way to rub it in. I can safely vouch that now my other line issues have been resolved the throttling still operates during peak times. For those of us that work, its pretty irritating knowing that our connection is perfect when we're at work. great. But return home and its still tosh.

I'm awaiting extra capacity at my exchange from O2 then I'm off. Actually had a really interesting talk with a CST chap who had a real look at my exchange and noted that altho their systems weren't allowing me to switch to Mid/Max, there were 30 free LLU slots at the exchange but had been marked as problematic. Sky were awaiting BT's involvement to check out the faulty slots and hopefully start moving people over.

Time will tell. In the meantime Sky knocked my package subs down and gave me a 20 sweetner credit on my account. FYI those paying 17 for connect, you shouldn't be. I was told by a member of the board that there is no way subs will be reduced through moaning. Not the case. I read his post, called up CS and 20 mins later, down we go to 5 a month. easy peasy.

Paulo, if your exchange has free LLU slots, even if they need fixed, you will be moved over as soon as this is done. This is why you have been discounted. Others who are on exchanges with no Sky presence and no plans for an early upgrade, are in a different position. They have very little chance, if any, of getting the cost reduced.

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

Sorry, I should have made it clear that when I referred to 'contention' this applied to the number of Sky Connect customers, not other ISPs. It is in the end, down to Sky not buying sufficient bandwidth. This is different from throttling, which is applied to individual users. As I have said many times, I would not recommend Connect to my worst enemy
