      Are you sharing your connection with another PC?

      The problem with connect comes as there is only a limited size banwidth and the more people on the connect package the quicker that bandwidth is used.

      To stop some people using all the bandwidth up they limit the speed that you can receive things, the idea being that it slowes everyone down a little but everyone gets the same.

      Problems arise when you your service is reduced to an unusable level because they have too many people crammed into the package, it is easy to rectify, buy more capacity but that costs money so they are reluctant to do this.

      It tends to happen to every ISP using the BT network at some point, they all have to buy more capacity as they get more customers but some do it sooner than others & some don't do it at all and hope to just keep turning over customers.

      Who knows which way Sky will go, it looks like they should be upping the capacity now, not sure if they will though, time will tell.

      If you want a better chance then you need to find an ISP with their own equipment in the exchange, Sky's LLU is good and Be, O2 are also worth a go if you can get it.

      Zen internet are very good if you cannot get LLU, they use the BT ADSLMAX equipment but you will pay more towards the top end because they keep buying capacity as they need it so to keep profits healthy they need to charge more. You can assume that anyone using the BT network and offering cheap internet will have capacity issues like Sky.

      Last time I heard, there was a 12 to 16 week lead time for BT to provide more capacity.

      Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

      * Broadband package: Sky Connect
      * Normal Speed: 3.5 MB
      * Current throttled speed: 0.5 MB
      * Average usage per day: The odd torrent but dont hammer it
      * What does this throttling affect? Gaming XBL

      As for Sky tellin folk their exchange will be upgraded within 12 months...dont believe a word !!they just tell you that to get you in the door. Been with them 2 years now and still no sign of my exchange being done and to be honest from what I have been told on here theres not much chance of it being done either as my area is mostly cabled.

      I have resigned myself to biting the bullet with regards to broadband as I dont have any other option at the moment but as soon as another avenue opens up then I will be leaving sky asap.
