Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

Well i'm not even optimistic anymore that SKY are even following the problems with Connect or have any intention of doing anything about it. They may be paying lip service to irate customers by saying they understand the frustrations but i fear it's easier for them to keep their heads down while they're still raking in the money from the Connect customers.

I've been down this street before when i was with AOL. In fact it's almost a carbon copy of my nightmare with AOL: the constant stream of emails asking for help but with no replies, the phone calls that degenerate into a game of cat & mouse...i can almost predict word for word what they're going to say, the absolute belief, of the company, that the customer is at fault and the casual way it's hinted that i should be grateful for what i receive.

As i said before, i'm disabled, bedridden, i haven't seen anything of the outside world for 12 years, if i see anything or learn anything then it's from my computer, a severe loss of broadband only compounds my problems. Come on SKY....why don't you finish the job my genetics began....my genetics robbed everything from me except my ability to use a keyboard, continue to take my broadband connection off me like you have and then you leave me with absolutely nothing in my life!!

If it is so important to you, you should find a supplier who can give you what you want.

Try Zen, they are twice the price but because of this they can increase the capacity when needed.

Also check if there are any LLU suppliers at your exchange, Be or O2 seem to do quite well.

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

What was a dial up speed some 5 plus years ago?
Don't get me wrong, I don't condone in any way how Sky are treating their Connect customers and something should be done to force them to get their finger out, but I have to point out that 5+ years ago the normal broadband speed was 512kbps.
This is approximately 10 times dial up(56kbps) and the speed you are getting now, is nearer 15 times dial up. Maybe this old BBC report will refresh your memory - BBC News | SCI/TECH | Will 2002 be the year of broadband? and this one is about BT launching their blazing fast 1Mbps service - BBC NEWS | Technology | BT sets date for faster broadband

Hopefully technology has moved on somewhat over this period? Clearly, very little when using Sky Connect after 5pm in 2009!

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

As I have already said for the cost that you pay Sky, they cannot achieve the capacity that the service requires and still make a profit. Until they give a timescale for the upgrade etc, There is only one soloution for everyone that does not find the service usable:-

YOU SHOULD MOVE TO ANOTHER SUPPLIER WHO CAN OFFER THE SERVICE!!!

REMEMBER...... No provider can offer this service and make a profit for the 17 Sky charge so be prepared to pay more for what you need. Look at Zen, you may not wish to use there broadband but their pricing is about right to give good service.

It's as simple as that really, for whatever the reason, poor capacity or heavy downloaders sucking it all up, this is the only way you will be able to do what you want at peak times.

It's a case of pay peanuts etc, etc.

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

You are quite correct, to a point.

For the same price 17.00, NewNet would give a completely unrestricted smooth service, but with a 12 Gb download limit. Or a totally unrestricted 3Gb download limit per month for 11.95. So, it is not only what you pay per month that gives a good service but acceptance of a smaller download allowance, it is our choice.

I made a huge mistake and left NewNet for Sky and am now locked into a 12 month contract. (NewNet is a one month contract by the way).

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

Yes, you are correct, I was comparing a similar package and download limit.

Zen also do cheaper packages, one at around the 17 mark but with a much lower download limit. This would be ok for gamers, assuming they didn;t download a lot of updates etc.

If I was in your position, I would get my MAC and move. I would send a recorded delivery letter stating that the service supplied was not fit for it's purpose and had been missold and you are giving your one months notice to terminate.

If you have to, change you payment for the other services from D/D to invlice and if they insist on billing you, only pay for the other servces and send a letter with every payment explaining why.

The last thing Sky will want is to pursue this leaglly, the publicity alone will be enough to put them off, plus, I think you all have a very good case, small claims will lap it up.

They cannot avoid giving you your MAC code.

Got my MAC. Can't afford to let the blood pressure increase or pay Sky 170. extrication fee. OR BOTH!

So, for sake of health and sanity will sit it out until the right time comes along. Thanks for the advice, but health is important and internet connectivity though nice and enjoyable is not the be all and all of life just a very small part.

MACs are only effective for 30 days, after that you have to apply for another one.
