There are a host of ISPs who sell a BT rebadged product the same as Sky Connect, I don't know of any who throttle as severely as Sky. Put your post code in the box on this site and you will get an idea of what you can get -

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

BT only rate my line at 500 kb/s but at the moment, my router settings says my downstream is 1720...

From 5pm onwards it is truly terrible with Connect, but is fine in the morning...

hi I was just wondering you are showing Sky Base. If you are on the connect package to be certain do a Bt speed test Bt Updated Speed Tester and then a good idea is to do the How to get your router statistics the more information you can give the better

Angry Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

      Broadband package: Sky Unlimited
Normal Speed: 7mb (what you would normally expect)
Current throttled speed: 512kb (Used broadband speedtester to check)
Average usage per day: A little
What does this throttling affect? Everything

I use to see 7mb regularly and i am only 100 metres from the exchange so i do not understand why everything is so slow

If you are on unlimited as you say then it is not throttles at all and you have another issue.

Post your router stats, we should be able to improve things for you.

Can you confirm that you are on Unlimited. Check by going to your MySky page and check the Broadband details. Alternately try to run the Speedtest on this page - (Unofficial) FAQ - Sky Connect Users if it works, you are on Connect.

The Unlimited package is not throttled, this thread is for Connect users.

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

Sky Connect is an absolute joke. Their rubbish about 'you may be restricted if you hammer your connection' is a blatent lie. I have been stuck with this 1980's version of a connection since last October '09 and can not wait til my 12 months are up. In the first week i had 6/7mb during the day then as soon as 6pm comes along... Bang 1/2 a meg (if im lucky) Sometimes this drops to 300kbps, and its never improved despite phone calls (at my expense)! They tell you it takes a week or so for the line to settle which is very true. But LIE about the fact that its throttled excessively every evening and all weekend (basically Peak hours as they put it) even if you hardly use it. The most amusing one was the door sales man who came sold me the sky+ and bb handed me a folder telling me as a movie subscriber i will be able to watch films on my pc. Yeah right i cant stream even music between about 6-11pm with my connection. Of course if i was a drain on society and couldnt be bothered to work it would be great i could watch these films during the day (weekdays only) But of course this wasnt told to me. Bottom line, WORST CONNECTION I'VE HAD IN TEN YEARS. UNUSABLE WHEN YOU NEED IT I.E IN THE EVENINGS, STAY WELL AWAY ESPECIALLY IF YOU PLAY GAMES, YOU STRUGGLE TO GET WEB PAGES UP SOMETIMES , TIMES OUT ALL THE TIME.

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

You can request to leave in contract, Sky won't hold you to it they know just how bad the Connect package is and would not like to see it publicised.

Many on here have left even when only a month or two in contract.

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

      • Broadband package: Sky Connect
      • Normal Speed: 7150 Kbps (what you would normally expect)
      • Current throttled speed: Mine ranges from 2 days ago receiving 11kb/s to 0.5mbps maximum from the hours of 2.30pm and 1.30am.
      • Average usage per day: I do, admittedly, use my connection a lot but never do I download during peak times (for the reason of throttling) and I haven't gone over my download limit (according to Sky) but yes I use it a lot for downloading off Rapidshare and Gaming.
      • What does this throttling affect? Everything, YouTube won't load any videos and even Facebook struggles to move.

I've used the official speedtester.bt.net or whatever the site is whilst on the phone, plugged in via my ethernet cable, and I received 11kb/s and then again yesterday around 150kb/s. I did one at half 1 this morning and got 6mb/s from that test. What. The. ****.

Just for some good measure, my ridiculous pingtest.net results. It says 0 packet loss yet in Counter-Strike: Source I've been receiving at least 50 loss consistently and in the past week it has risen to 80 and is completely unplayable.

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

That is the problem with Sky Connect, over capacity.

Only option is to do what I have already advised and LEAVE!!!! nothing else will cure it your end.
