      Broadband package: Sky Connect
      Normal Speed: 7-8mb
Current throttled speed: 900kb, if not less
Average usage per day: A little
What does this throttling affect? Browsing, gaming and downloading

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

thanks for the replys guys, i have checked and there are no LLUs on my exchange, i dont think its a line problem as i use to get 8meg when i was with BT but since getting sky on day one ive only had 6meg

i have emailed them and they said its all down to the throttling as to why im getting 6 not 8 and that im stuck untill the end of my 12 months.

That is rubbish!! Throttling does not effect your sync speed, only your actual download. BT could quite easily reconfigure your line to give it its full speed. Why Sky cannot communicate with BT like many other ISPs, I don't know. Your noise margin shows you have plenty of speed in hand.

You should do as others have done and ask for your MAC. Before you do so, do a couple of checks on the BT performance Test during the peak period to prove your connection is very poor and keep any emails from Sky saying they can do nothing. If they ask you if you want to cancel, say no, there is plenty time to tell them when you are fixed up with a new ISP.

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

New to the forum but very interesting reading.

Over the past few days my SKY connection (Sky Mid) has slowed during normal browsing in the evening to snails pace - rendering general ebay and email unusable (timeouts etc).

Im an MCSE network engineer for a living - for the past 10 years - and have replaced my SKY / Netgear router with a cisco 1700 enterprise class router so I'm confident my issue does not lie in the poor quality router.

Last night I was getting download speeds of as little as 700k - typically I get a 3mb connection due to 2 miles from exchange by road.

I have ordered a replacement ADSL faceplate for my main BT master socket and intend to run a dedicated ADSL only line from the faceplate I ordered in some endeavour to sort this out.

Ironically during the daytime I was shocked to see just how QUICKLY it was running. God only knows what they have done with the throttling - or how I can address this?

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

stats would confirm if you're on Connect - is your upstream 448kbps? if so, you're on Connect. If not it's something else. Perhaps try your Sky router...

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

      update,
after talking to Sky they have said that if i move i will get charged, but managed to get some money out of them, they are reducing my payments from 17 to 7 pm for the next 6 months, so as soon as my contract is up, which is 4 months time im switching back to BT.

      thanks guys

Hi in that time Bt might have done their switch over by then. 7.00 is a lot better than 17.00 but we will still have the same old connect problems as
Isitme says with Line Attenuation 14.0 db 6.0 db on an LLU exchange
so when your exchange does have LLU in that would be the best.

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

Just get your MAC and go, they cannot refuse to give it to you.

If they want to try to hold you to contract tell them that you are prepared to fight it and that the service is not of a useable quality, they will back down.

Don't put up with it, get out now whislt you can.
