      Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

      Out of interest I've just run a sample number of exchanges through this tool using the info posters to this thread have given about their location.

      Interestingly, the majority are showing their Virtual Path status (in effect network link capacity) as green i.e. no known problems. There are some exceptions such as Thame (Tashady, roll on 28th Jan), but the majority seem to be green.

      This would suggest to me that the Connect slowdown problem being reported in this thread is down to Sky's heavy handed use of the End User Speed Control or Downstream Quality of Service tools, rather than a BT IPstream network issue (see post #119). But, I stress, that's only an assumption on my part, not a fact.

      Maybe if everyone requested there MAC code via https://mysky.sky.com/portal/site/sk...contactus/kana

      Obviously i'm not saying use the MAC code but a sharp spike in requests for them might pick up on there radar.

      Maybe then they will take more notice rather than a polite letter from Ofcom three months down the line.

      Maybe the people who have left are the biggest downloaders as they would really notice any slowdown quickly and the fact that they have gone has left more capacity for the rest.

      I seem to remember some time ago Plusnet went through a similar issue with poor capacity and stated that less than 10% of the users were using 70% of the capacity or something along those lines.

      Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

      My Connect package has started slowing down, it started a few weeks ago with an intermittant connection, that problem seems to have resolved itself, but lately my evening speed has dropped drastically.

      Doing the SkyUser speed test during the day I usually get around 2.5Meg, in the evening I'm lucky if I get near 1Meg. Checking my Sky router stats this evening my line speed was listed just above 3600kbps and my noise margin was hovering around 4.4db, I disconnected and connected the router to the test socket without powering down, it reconnected at 3168kbps and noise margin has increased to just above 9.7db, putting the phone socket back to normal my stats have stayed the same;

      Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 78555 113380 0 92 1418 28:23:22
      LAN 10M/100M 2092 0 0 6 0 28:23:49
      WLAN 11M/54M 266416 254043 0 1610 267 28:23:41

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
      Connection Speed 3168 kbps 448 kbps
      Line Attenuation 54.0 db 31.5 db
      Noise Margin 9.6 db 19.0 db

      I am still suspicious of the Sky router, line disconnections do not always show up in the Log, but I have not got another router to try. In the above experiment with disconnecting the router to plug it into the test socket, nothing showed up in the log!

      Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

      * Broadband package: Sky Connect
      * Normal Speed: 6mb
      * Current throttled speed: 1-2mb
      * Average usage per day: A little
      * What does this throttling affect? General Browsing / Downloading Files / TV over internet

      I was interested to come across this thread as I've been having problems with slow speeds during peak periods (5pm - midnight) since November last year and thought it was down to congestion at the exchange and/or on Sky's network. I joined Sky in August 08 and was originally very pleased with the speeds, and I can still get around 6mb during the day.

      Different speedtesters also give very different results. I had always used the one on DSL Zone, which shows my speeds during peak periods of 600kb - 1mb. The one on Skyuser shows more than twice that.
