Thanks for the many replies guys....

On the subject of whether Sky does read these forums i would say why not? It would cost them to do some pretty basic market research but perusing these forums costs nothing even though the sample of opinions may be limited.

The bottom line is it's in their interest to be aware of their subscribers' opinions and if they can get a general feeling for what people are thinking why not get it for free?

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

Just done a quick speedtest and it has got a little better for me 5.2 meg now, ping are a little better also. Dunno may have something to my usage not being great, but it is a massive improvement.

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

      Broadband package: Sky Connect
      Normal Speed: 7mb
      Current throttled speed: 731kbps
      Average usage per day: High
What does this throttling affect? Browsing, Gaming (PS3 and Xbox Live)

Connection speed drops dramatically between 6pm and 11pm. Would say my family are high users. I use my Mac for general browsing, occasional iTunes purchases, Youtubing and playing PS3 network. My brother is the same maybe steams more videos than me but uses Xbox live most of the week.

I spoke to a man today from sky saying I'd downloaded 3.2gb of data over the last 24 hours understandable as both my Mac and brothers Vista PC needed system updates. He also told me the slow speeds happen because of BT's fair use policy and they throttle your connection if you exceed 1.5gb a day.

Getting very fed up. Switched from BT to Sky because TV, phone and BB is fractionally more than what I was paying before for just BB and phone from BT. Lets hope it gets resolved soon. My contract doesn't run out till November so I'm tied till then.

      Hi
The more Sky Connect Customers who put the details that are asked for down on this thread
I think the more notice Sky BB will take. Day times are usually good between 1800 and 2300hr
the busy times. But if you look at the few posts there seem to be improvements. lets hope it lasts Bt and Sky run tests on usage Thanks for putting the details in

I'm amazed that BT keeps getting the blame. BT may have a fair use policy for their own customers but that has nothing to do with Sky's.

Sky buy Connect from BT but, BT sell a service called "BT IPstream Advanced Services", and this is what Sky has bought. There are two product variations: End User Speed Control and Downstream Quality of Service (QoS).

End User Speed Control allows Service Providers (i.e. Sky) to limit the downstream throughput to individual End Users to a range of values below the line speed. Downstream QoS allows Service Providers (i.e. Sky) to set up assured rate downstream sessions to individual End Users.

Both of those service variants are chargeable: I believe it is 2 per connection as a one off charge or 0.04p per customer per use, respectively, though I may be out of date.

So, the truth is, either Sky is throttling the service using one of the two tools, or, there's a fundamental capacity issue i.e. they have too many customers for the capacity they've bought - both Sky problems, not BT's.

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?

Well said Saturday, I have been trying to tell ppl for a wile that it is not BT throttling its sky but as sky customer service keep telling there customers it is BT it has fallen on death ears.
Anyhow I don't believe a company would be legally allowed to monitor a competitors customers to the extent were they could throttle them.
So guys once and for all SKY ARE DOING IT.
It just amazes me how sky have the front to actually blame BT
