I have just started to use Jack Dinn's free Auto Speed Tester. Sits in the task bar and records d/l's and ping times every 60 minutes.

Hi the more information the better I always do a Bt Performance test between 5pm and 12midnight sometimes 2 depends on if it is really slow on the first test anytime from about 6pm if not I test about 10pm and it usually is really slow then but you also need the test done after 12midnight and before 5pm to show what you would normally get without Traffic Management (throttle)

Hi if you can do the same as above it just means when Sky tell you to run tests with Bt you can say I already have and here is the results (1 Step ahead)
I know this might sound daft but Pity whats after 11pmpitty its after 11pm..

IP Profile still 3000kbps if it has not gone back up by tomorrow afternoon I suppose I will have to ring and ask them politely to reset it and when asked for my name I will say Spartacus (just kidding)Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
Sky don't reset the IP Profile - it's directly linked to your sync speed...given it should be 3500 but will only jump to that after 72hrs of staying over 4Mbps...something must've dropped for the line rate to have dropped to 3000...

Yes I was in the master socket and brother dropped in for chat I forgot the master socket was disconnected and router was on and kept trying to sync. When connected back up looked at the router details 16 times tried to sync my own fault

gateway showed 512kbps downstream 3880kbps booted went to Downstream 4160kbps which has since and no reason for it to drop as I said my fault I know 72hrs but seen that happen before where it was stuck at 1500kbps
Sky contacted Bt to put the profile back to what it was thats what I was told. I will leave it for a couple more days and see thanks
Did not switch router of but had master socket pulled out router kept trying to sync as above added text do not want to keep postingLast edited by steve16751; 24-03-09 at 12:07 AM. Reason: add text

Switching your router off should not cause the Profile to drop. Many switch their router off every night with no problems. You may have another problem with your line.

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
Chaps and chapesses, well, its D-Day. I have FINALLY been moved over to Mid from connect on discovering that it fact extra capacity seemed to have been added (that or so many people had left sky there was space for me!)
So, here are my stats....
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8096 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 33.0 db 22.5 db
Noise Margin 7.3 db 14.0 db
A speedtest from just a second ago...

So, a good result all round, I'm pleased I stuck it out and kept on hassling/checking with Sky. But, my question to the experts is...
My speed tests are roughly 6meg. Does this mean I wouldn't see any benefit from being on Max? I was expecting to see nearer the 8meg given my stats.
I'd considered bumping its straight up to Max tonight, would that screw the DLM process, am I even on DLM?
Hopefully someone can hit me up with a couple of answers, if anyone has any questions on moving to Mid or the nagging I did, please do let me know.
Thanks to all for your support on getting this far. Steve, smithy, IANTE, Saturday, the list goes on....

Re: Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down?
With that sync you should be able to download at about 7Mbps. If you have not done so and are not running Vista, try running DrTCP or TCPOptimiser, links below.
Due to overheads you will not be able to download at the sync speed, somewhere between 85-90% is pretty good.
Given your attenuation, your noise margin could be a bit higher. Have you done everything you can to improve your wiring, ie checked from the Test socket etc.
With a good line you could get 12-14Mb on Max, but don't jump in yet until you can get that noise margin up. As it stands your line is getting as much as it can take. You are on G.DMT at the moment but you will be moved to ADSL2+ when DLM starts on your line, if you do have noise problems, this may make it worse.
I think it would be better if you evacuated this thread and start one of your own. Your Connect problems are over
