Really Strange Problem. Packet Loss and Bad Speeds

      Hey,

First of all i'd like to point out that i am on the connect service - so i am using BT's equipment. I am on fastpath.
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4960 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 41 db 13 db
Noise Margin 7 db 23 db

I have checked my detailed stats and they are fine.

I get bad speeds at peak times - the packet loss problems i havev seem to also happen more frequently at peak times.

My noise margin fluctuates wildy later on in the day - flipping from 2db to 9db within 2 seconds.

The main problem i am having is packet loss, however, it seems to make no sense. If i reboot my router and join a server on a game, the game runs flawlessly and with no issues. If i then disconnect from that server, and then join a different server, OR the same server, and i get packet loss off around 30-50%, causing the game to be unplayable.

      Firewall disabled in router.

      What can i do???

just let me know if you need any more information but its a really strange one so i dont expect much to happen but anything is appreciated.

well, everyone on Connect is throttled at peak time, so that takes care of that...

however, SNR fluctuation isn't good so if you have a test try it in there...

and are you sure you're on Fastpath? All requests we put through tend to get rejected...

Re: Really Strange Problem. Packet Loss and Bad Speeds

Should the throttle really cause packet loss? I thought it was more of a cap on throughput, giving us packet loss and huge lagouts during games is quite a harsh cap.

I too am having this problem. While playing online games I find I get huge lagouts where my router is not sending or receiving data for a good 1 or 2 seconds. Then it starts again but its very off and on from that point onwards.

Going into the router page and doing a soft disconnect and reconnect will fix it for an hour or so - but then the lag will start up again. I suspect traffic management picked up on the torrenting I did almost a week back. But that was pretty much a one off for me and I consider myself a light user - any clue as to when it will reassess my usage and consider uncapping me? I also live in an area where connect is the only option, so it kind of sucks.

i know i'm not supposed to, but i am 99% sure of it. It must have been over a year ago now, but basically for about 6 months my ping was around 45, i rang sky up, spent an hour on the phone, finally got put through to an irish person who said they would change it for me, changed it _himself_ and told me that within 24 hours the change would take place. The next morning my pings were around 20 and have been ever since. Detailed stats will probably back me up but not sure

i'm still waiting on it to auto-update...must be taking their time!! lol!!

well, as i said above, all Connect customer are getting throttled so that explains the speed issue - can't say anything jumps out regarding packet loss though, unless you're wireless...

We have an update on this, (believe me we have mithered) the person who is responsible for issuing this to us has been off work with illness. We hope to have it as soon as that person has recovered from illness and caught up with their workload.
