      Even faster possible?

I'm EXTREMELY happy with my sky BB service getting 14.8MB

but you see offers/hear about BE broadband where you can get up to 24MB. Even though sky give you a max of 16MB which is rarely achievable... do you think that it is possible to get even more than 16MB? (of course, considering the distance of the exchange but lets say I live close to the exchange)

do you think I am able to get more than 14.8MB?

      this is my connection stats:

Connection Speed 14847 kbps 765 kbps
Line Attenuation 32.5 db 18.2 db
Noise Margin 6.9 db 9.5 db

im just curious to know how other ADSL providers can say you can get say beyond 16 and up to 24MB.....because if so, then surely sky should have this?

      Re: Even faster possible?

Sky could offer 24Mb the same as BE, they run via the Easynet network (they own it) which was and still does I think offer 24Mb

The main reason why they don't is that not many would achieve it and also it would increase support calls from people who wanted to go that high but couldn't.

thanks. that is true... but then the same thing with BE would happen where not many could achieve it.... ??

Sync speed is down to line attenuation and line quality.

Your attenuation at 32.5db will support a maximum of 15.25Mbps on ADSL2+ irrespective of ISP. Your line must be good quality as that's only a shade above what you're achieving.

So no, you're just about at the maximum your line can support.

      thanks!

just curious to know how people/companies can say that they can give you up to 24MB or close when the lines are probably old....

      Re: Even faster possible?

24meg is the theoretical maximum for ADSL2+ but in the real world, rarely achieved out of the lab.

20meg isn't so rare and can be got with a good quality line and an attenuation of 20db (~1.5km line length).

The debate rages on but no-one wants to pay for it. At the end of the day it really does turn to the consumers fault. If I was to pay 20 for my new speed then it would be worth investing in. Although extra speed would be nice, its no really something I am going to spend extra money on, its just not that important, and that is the way many other broadband customers think.
Many people have broadband because of the fact that it is so cheap.
