      Messy Wiring

      Hi everyone,

Around 15 years ago I had an extension installed by BT, he cut the over head wire that used to go downstairs into the living room, and guided it into my bedroom (where the extension is), he then fitted a junction box near the window which has loads of wires in it. I am sure that the over-head wires go into there, then the other half of the wrie he cut goes into the idc slots of the jucntion box and goes downstairs to the masterbox. What confuses me is that the idc slots also have the extension wiring in there too. Surely that's making my BB sppeds low?
      Here is my current Status

      System Up Time: 3:51:56
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 60704 88193 0 0 0 3:50:46
      LAN 15 0 0 0 0 3:51:56
      WLAN 130074 94415 0 116 84 3:51:33
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 512 kbps 288 kbps
Line Attenuation 52.0 db 31.5 db
      Noise Margin 19.2 db 14.0
I also have bad crackly sounds on my line
And before you ask I have replaced fliters, and eliminated all of my phones, faxes sky boxes etc.

What My real question is can I get this all Re wired for free? seeing that it's all before my masterbox it's there property?

If you report that, afaik BT would sort the wiring out FOC - Don't mention the BB side of things though.

      Re: Messy Wiring

Someone has set your speed lower, manually or automatically, DLM possibly on this one.

Noise Margin 19.2 db <- this is higher than normal and points to a cap on the line.

      Re: Messy Wiring

Ok, maybe worth, getting the line uncapped a little more. Give them a call, after 2200 would be better as it would start getting busy now

Say you have a slow speed.

      Re: Messy Wiring

okay, how fast do you think it could reach in comparison to my noise margin and Line Attenuation?
