Re: slow download speed, is this as good as it gets? sky says it is.

Thx for the replys guys, i asked about capping and was told no, i asked about dlm and was told it did not apply to my line, seems strange to me though that after i told i could not even stream youtube without constant stopping the teir 2 guy said he would tweak the line and hey presto i now get 1500 kbps even up to a heady 2000 occasionaly.
Now this is a far cry from the plusnet days of 5000 kbps or more and i have been told i cant get any faster speed out of my line.
was gonna persevere and try again with the tech as one seems to contradict another but i feel i am swimming against the tide, and after being told my broadband charges are doubling i think i will give 02 and freesat a go.
      thx again foy the replys.

      Your syncing at 7mb.
This seems like a through put issue.

      Whats your physical setup like?
Are you connecting wirelessly or ethernet?
Any other programs open thats using bandwidth?

Re: slow download speed, is this as good as it gets? sky says it is.

hi, thanks for the repley, i am connected wirelessly at the moment but i have tested using the lan cable into my router with no difference in the download speed.
My router is plugged into the master socket, no extensions, only one phone.
Tried the test socket with the same results.
when speed testing only my laptop running, only Macafee security centre running.
spy and adaware checks done, reg cleaner ran.
Come to a dead end realy now cant think of anything else to iprove the situation realy.

above is my speed test results tonight,

      here is my router stats

DLM hates long lines like mine...

however have you tried another router on your line?

I bet people will wonder why i say this after all I've said about DLM, but for long lines it will be beneficial. Maybe not for people who dont see further than their sync speed. For a reasonable drop in sync speed you will gain a more stable connection which in realtime should give better actual throughput than the previous higher synced, error cluttered connection.
I just wish Sky would tell people what it does and its benefits.

Re: slow download speed, is this as good as it gets? sky says it is.

since going over to O2 and having the initial DLM on the line and being capped at 8 meg/sec as that was the package I selected, I find that this line is a lot more stable rather that being on SkyMax and flopping around between 9-11 meg/sec and needing lots of router resters.

But it seems that O2 will happily discuss DLM with it's customers rather than Sky who wants to keep it all in the dark for some reason.
I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!

I bet if you were still with Sky, and they capped your line at 8meg to improve stablity, you would have moaned

      ^^ This I bet too.

O2 are new to the BB game. Wait till they get loads of customers like Sky. Then things will get sloppy.
      imo

Although I do not think that this is the case maybe your TCP/IP settings have change. Run TCP Optimizer (SpeedGuide.net :: TCP Optimizer / Downloads) and see if you see an improvement. There seems to be a lot of throughput issues around.

Well about three in the last week or two out of 31000+ users anyway
