Been on DLM for over 22 days now

      Hi all,

Looks like ive been on DLM for nearly 23 days now and with no improvement over DL speed.....

      System Up Time: 550:18:50

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 1228436 1633751 0 1494 14091 35:47:44
      LAN 100M/Full 17864999 15970776 0 1168 365 550:18:45
      WLAN 11M/54M 2260027 1769100 0 1115 288 550:18:33
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4379 kbps 412 kbps
Line Attenuation 51 db 31 db
Noise Margin 7 db 16 db

It looks like nearly 36 hours ago I "may" have received some sort of firmware update.....

      Firmware Version V2.02.44
      ADSL Firmware Version 7.03.01.66

Am I correct in thinking this, although I can't remember what the firmware(s) was before but I'm about 90% sure it's changed.
Am I going to be on DLM still for a further 10 - 20 days

      Thanks
      Paul.

Re: Been on DLM for over 22 days now

I just got connected to Sky Mid this afternoon, at 2.7 meg, faster than I was on before with Pipex - Sky have never mentioned anything about DLM to me - is this some kind of stabilisation period that your line goes through, after which your speed is "fixed" by Sky?

paul thompson - The FW upgrade should not increase the amount of time DLM is going to be run on the line.

afc69 - You should have had a letter from sky to tell you about the DLM, this maybe in the pack with th router etc. It is some form of stabilisation.

With line stats like this i would not think you will get more speed ,
      Your attenuation is high ,

As for the DLM still ongoing this is true ,
After dlm has finished it then keeps a eye on the connection and if sees any change in the line stats it will then run dlm again and fingers crossed give you a better connection ,

As for it taking 10 days this is ture but dlm can run more then once on a line .

With a bit of luck it will be finished soon but dont hope for much more speed .

The Max I got before DLM got my line was 5222kbps but it was quite unstable, lots of drop outs and re-syncs.

And now that dlm has made your sync speed lower the line should be a bit better ,
But it will take time for dlm to see that the line is stable and should stop dlm .

Re: Been on DLM for over 22 days now

The DS Attenuation has actually gone up 1 - 2db, it used to be 50db with a very occasional drop down to 49db but I don't think 1 - 2db will make much difference.
Having said that, my phoneline goes over a neighbours garden and a tree they have has grown quite big these last few years and the twigs/branches are actually touching the line, will this make any difference ?

      It can do yes ,
Mite have damaged the line a bit,
But line stats do get worse over time but 1 / 2 db is nothing to worrie about .

Re: Been on DLM for over 22 days now

Line attenuation may vary depending on when you sync and it's not unusual to have it change by 1/2 db. I don't believe you're going to get any faster sync with the line you have right now. If DLM did any damage and sky capped you this would have been reflected by a high margin but since your noise margin 7db it indicates that you're on the standard 6.8db profile so there's nothing else to do im afraid
