      Re: Speed has dropped

You may have a low sync compared to before because of christmas, new year time etc. The days are getting shorter along with people buying more electrical goods and all of this will add more noise to the line resulting in a lower sync. Generally your router will sync faster in the summer than winter because of less noise on the line. Think about it this way, when the days are shorter the street lamps light up earlier and this adds noise to the line.

Line Attenuation 51.5 db 27.6 db
I can't see how you could have had 7mb with that attenuation. Have BT done any work locally at all? I have an attenuation of 46 ish and can only just hit 7meg. It looks like your attenuation has possibly risen from what you used to have, but attenuation is your line length afaik and so practically impossible to change.

We estimate your line is capable of between 5mb to 6mb broadband on an ADSL2+ service.

True, i don't see how you could have synced at 7meg with that attenuation. It could possibly be that new houses were built around your area and they had to reroute lines but if that happened then your service would have been down.

Mmmmm it is very strange.... I will go and do some research and maybe contact BT... If its down to Line length then there is nothing I can about it, thanks for your input

      Re: Speed has dropped AGAIN!!!!!!!!

Over the last 3 days I am only connecting at a lot lower speed.. I have put all my details in this thread when I originally used to connect at 7000k it dropped by half and now it has dropped by half again!!! Here are the lastest connection stats

      System Up Time 32:33:34
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 12271 21120 0 566 4593 01:07:09
      LAN 10M/100M 6949988 4132971 0 9542 2528 32:33:31
      WLAN 11M/54M 11167 4293 0 98 2 32:33:23

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1743 kbps 765 kbps
Line Attenuation 51.5 db 27.6 db
Noise Margin 7.4 db 7.5 db

Does anyone have any ideas why this could happen??? I havent changed any hardware and both my home PC's are reporting the same stats, so I know it isnt a PC issue, I have tried rebooting the router several times but the speeds remain roughly the same...

I have to say I am getting really peed off at my speeds getting lower and lower.....

      Re: Speed has dropped

have u made any changes to the set up?
inc new phones, hd box, any sky tv box, do any of the other sockets have filters on them? if so remove them all.
remember a prefilterd faceplate is just a big microfilter, they can break. try removing the faceplate u should be left with the original socket/test socket. try putting a filter on tht and see what happens. and just to let u know atenuation is not to do with line length, its to do with line quality and the lines ability to handle the signal. in slave socket my gfs attenuation is 55 as is her snr, yet when she moves to master socket it drops to 46.
faulty equiptment will give faulty readings

      Re: Speed has dropped

Hi Thanks for the advice and questions....

Nothing has changed in my set up what so ever, I have the adsl faceplate and have done for some time, no equipment changes at all... The speed has just dropped all on its own, I have been downloading a fair bit lately, I am the max package would they cap me if I was downloading a lot?
