      Slow Speed On MAX package

      Hello Everyone,

      This is my 1st post and didn't want to hijack another thread.
      I know it's been talked about loads of times before but my Sky Braodband is VERY slow!

      I joined Sky broadband on the MAX package at the begining of December.
      As from day one I've only been able to get about 1/2 meg download speed.
      My line apperently supports 4.5 meg.

      I 1st phoned Sky to ask why this was, and was told it is because I was using a telephone extension cable.
      So I tried connecting direct fom pc to main phone box, also tried the master socket and still the same speed.

      2nd phone call I was told that I needed to leave my modem on for 20 days ( although originally told it was 10 days ) as the speeds go up and down.

      3rd phone call and they checked my lines etc and was told someone would phone me within 72 hours...................still waiting!

      My deatils on my Sagem router are as follows:


      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
      Connection Speed 512 kbps 606 kbps
      Line Attenuation 53.0 db 30.2 db
      Noise Margin 31.6 db 17.0 db


      This has been my average download speed from day one.
      As you can imagine it's driving me mad now, paying for something I'm not getting and passed from piller to post when I phone up.

      ANY help to speed up my connection would be greatly appreciated

      Call back and queue for CST if your ticket is still open, that way it will be dealt with as soon as you talk to them. If you had an extension in that caused issues to start with your speed would have been manually capped to stabilise it.

      Hi xpatx,

      Welcome to the forum.

      My line apperently supports 4.5 meg.
      If you are on Sky Basic as your profile says, you will only ever reach a downstream synch (speed) of 2048 kbps. Having said that, your stats do appear poor. If you do indeed get the same speeds at the TEST socket within the master socket then it looks as though you have been capped.

      Sky Basic is a LLU product and doesn't need any "training" time at all, let alone 20 days, but it is possible that you have been put onto Connect until space becomes available at the exchange to put you on LLU.

      In any event, your only recourse is to badger Sky support on the basis of line speed problems until they take action.

      You should be able to get sorted, just call and say you have a slow speed issue, They should pick up that you are heavily capped and then pop you through to CST to sort things out.
