      Help with laptop wifi connection

Hello, I am new to the forum and really really need some help.

I have just purchased a new laptop for my mother for xmas (hp g60-119ea) and I'm having a nightmare trying to get it to connect to my wireless network. I think I have tried absolutely everything!

I have sky max broadband with the black sagem router on latest 1.9sky firmware.
All drivers have been updated on the laptop as well as all latest vista updates (god I hate vista by the way)
Laptop works fine on ethernet connection.
Macbook pro/xp machine/xbox/iPhone all work with no problems
Initially had router setup on static ip address and tried changing to dhcp and still no luck.
Tried removing wifi security and still no difference.
      Tried different methods of encryption.
Wireless card works on the laptop as I tried it at a friends house.

I am completley stumped with this issue and it's been annoying me since xmas day! Not how I planned to spend my hols!!

Please any help will be much appreciated.
      Thanks in advance.

Rule #1 go back to XP.

Change the SSID, Password, Set a static IP address for the wireless and see if you can connect

Re: Help with laptop wifi connection

my macbook works fine when running vista in bootcamp as well. agree moving to xp may be the best option still!!

changed the ssid and password, still not working.

how do i change the static ip address for the sagem router, i dont think i have actually managed to do this. the old netgear one seemed so much better and easier to use!

      thanks

Have you tried changing the channel to something like 13. It could be that someone in your area is using the same channel as you and knocking yours out.

Re: Help with laptop wifi connection

figured out what the problem was. i did a factory reset and the laptop started working. slowly started adding my settings one at a time the i found the fault to be the broadcast of the network. i had it set to 54g performance instead of 54g auto.
cant believe this was the issue!

know that it may sound silly but double check the user name/password also make sure that the antenna is plugged in properly into both ends as you would be surprised how overlooked these problems are.
