Extending the wireless with Sky BB

Firstly id like to say hi! Im new to this place so go easy on me.
I got the standard sky DG834GT router downstairs.
I stay in the loft where i dont get any signal from it. I also have a Netgear WGT624 (not sure if its a router or a hub).

BUT what id like to ask is, can i use the WGT624 to extend the wireless signal, if i connected a ethernet cable between the original sky router and this one?
Or do i need a hub or something else?!

Been trying to get it to work since 9pm and its close to 4am now! Im going crazy! Someone help!!

      Thanks

WGT624 is a WiFi Router. A simple Google on the name establishes that. So why not TRY connecting the two routers by LAN and seeing what happens? You'd need to make sure the WiFi channels didn't clash (so have the channel numbers seratated by at least 5 (ie 1 and 6 or 4 and 11) - ideally turn the WiFi off in the original Sky router.

I've never done this (I've extended the range by using an Access Point attached to a router and that's just plug in and go). You might need to play about with DHCP, but I don't know.

So try it, if it works when you are in the same room as the 2 routers then you can extend the LAN cable to take the second router to a higher floor (which is what I did).

In the end I ditched WiFi and went for HomePlug (Networking over 240v mains cable) which will work without a problem if you can spend the money to buy the adaptors.

The notes and diagram here may be helpful.

Using WPN824, WGR614, or WGT624 Routers as an Access Point

Or an easier soloution would be to buy a couple of homeplugs, one with aa wireless point on it. Then you could hard wire any fixed items, desktops and consoles and use the wireless extender where you need wireless facilities.

You could even plug it into an extension lead in the garden if you wanted to and can move it around if you ever needed to extend the range in another position.

thanks for the comments guys, i really cant afford a homeplug at the moment, kinda very very broke! lol
so im just trying to make do with what i currently have.
Using the diagram i was able to get the net working here using the cables and using the router as an extender, but i still cant get the wifi to work!

have a look on Ebay for some homeplugs I got my 2 from there for 15 (including postage).

in the Ebay search put powerline in and see the many many bargains to be had.
I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!
