Wireless is a poor means of network connection and I would only use it on a laptop or as a last resort, too many things can and do affect it and you can find that it changes from minute to minute.

Get a couple of homeplugs, I use Solwise 85Mb ones without any problems.

For laptop use, probably the best solution is a Homeplug wireless adapter, which means the adapter can be placed in the room you are working and moved if necessary. These are compatible with the Homeplug 1.0 standard which means it will work with most Netgear and Solwise Homeplug products. For example-
      BroadbandBuyer PL-85PEW Wireless Homeplug 85Mbps Wireless-G & Ethernet Adapter

and - NETGEAR XETB1001 85Mbps Powerline Homeplug Network Adapter Starter Kit
