This forum is full of people who know what they are on about and wiring domestic phones is not at all difficult, in fact this is half the problem, it's so easy there are lots of ways to do it and get it wrong but it still works

Very happy to try as I already followed your advice for the downstairs socket but it just didn't work that time.
I am grateful for your input, I have learnt a lot from this forum so fire away................

O.k This involves messing with BT wiring, and as it is now dark outside, and tomorrow is Sunday (shops are shut), just content yourself with understanding this before you start.

      Shopping List.

You will need, and may already have.

      1 NTE-5 master socket

1 XTE-2005 ADSL Nation filter faceplate.

Both from ADSL Nation or Run-it-Direct.

      (1) Locate where the telephone line enters your home.

      (2) Disconnect all wiring from it. This will leave you with just the incoming line pair with nothing connected to them.
this will prob be at the external grey box.
Don't do any of this untill you have read and got everthing you need because from now untill you have finished you cannot go on line using the phone line and cannot seek help.

      (3) Run a new length of CW1308 2 pair telephone cable, from the point where the incomming line is, to where you would like the master socket.

      (4) Fit the NTE-5 master to the wall and connect the blue pair of the cw1308 cable to A and B of the master socket (it does not matter which wire connects to which terminal)

      (5) Now connect the blue pair of the cable to the incomming pair of the telephone line, Again it does not matter which way round (you will need some telephone crimps for this, from Run-it Direct I think)

      (6) You should now have a dial tone at the test socket of the master and you can do a speed test and see what you get.

If you are still with me post back for the next bit
