firmware update(or something) and now very very slow

ive had sky BB for about a year, unsurprisingly(in my experience) its not great, but its not been too bad, but yesterday it disconnected and wouldnt connect for about 30 minutes, then when it did 5 minutes later i get a page saying my firmware was being updated.
i find that pretty irritating anyway because if the router was supplied uncrippled i could easily choose my firmware and receive advice and help from a far larger pool.
      anyway thats off topic.
but since the "firmware update" its been getting slower and slower, dropping the connection and generally sucking.
speed now is about 20-30 kb/sec which is pretty annoying as i need to do some work and i need two virtual appliances and at the current rate it'll be tommorow afternoon before i get them!!
id offer some router stats but its seems accademic as i havent got any before the firmware stats to compare them too.

wish i could have my sky HD box(when its not going wrong) and a cable connection without having two subscriptions!

just really wondered if anyone else has had this problem, and if anyone can explain why sky feel its acceptable to arbitrarialy log into my router(ive had it over a year so guess it is mine?) and bugger it up, stick to making programs about americans outrunning the rozzers and leave my bloody crappy router alone.

oh just incase, is there somewhere i can get the firmware i had before from?

im sure someone will tell me that the update has some improvement, but i will reply with "are you in the unfortunate position of having to use a microsoft box at some point in your working or social life? if so, first my sympathies and second, have you seen the vista control panel?" point proven i think.

Re: firmware update(or something) and now very very slow

I am in the fortunate or unfortunate position to see most if not all of the control panels that each windows version provides.

I imagine that you have a netgear router, could you post your router stats as this may help us guys find the problem (look at the linky below to post this).

I think (sorry my cd is not readable as it is used as a coaster) that the FW is stored on the cd.

Edit... Just found a cd and it has the FW on it

Yep the firmware is on the CD provided with the router from Sky, you can do a firmware recovery from that if you think that is the issue but posting stats would be a better start.
