      Isitme

my typo, it was the Test Socket I actually used- the master socket I have is the one with the removable bottom.
Took it off, and plugged a filter into the socket behind it and produced the above results

      apologies for misleading....

That's a pity. It probably means your external line has a lot of noise on it due to faults, which are out of your control.

Leave it in the Test socket and phone Sky in about 45mins and ask them to improve your speed.

strange....whilst I was with my previous ISP (plusnet) for the last 5 or so years, I was always getting about 2000 download speed.

You might get that again, but phone lines do develop faults.

Re: New to Sky BB - slow connection....

You can phone the sky tech line and find out very quickly the speed that is being sent down your line. If you are receiving the whole signal and your broadband is simply configured(due to DLM) to send 761 kbps down your line then it can be manually adjusted or the DLM can be reset.

Re: New to Sky BB - slow connection....

I did spot tonight that Sky Talk (free one) was activated on my phone line on the 21st .... just wondering if that was when the speed deteriorated??
Could it have anythng to do with it?

      Possibly.

Give sky a call when your in the test socket, and they should be able to uncap you, they maybe able to see what problems you have on the line and get this sorted.

Call on 08442 410515 and say you have a slow speed. Call either 1st thing or last thing at night, and make sure you get through you get through to CST and the guys there will sort things out

As isitme say though phone lines can develop vaults.

Re: New to Sky BB - slow connection....

      Guys,
What a result....we're now cooking on Broadband gas

Phoned Sky tonight, had the router in the test socket etc etc, got through to Tech Support after only waiting 5 mins and got through to a very pleasant and helpful girl called Catherine who was actually based in Belfast (very helpful since that is where I am!!)

Turns out she was "higher tier" and the call was routed to her since "lower tier" were busy.

Told her my woes, she checked the line and said it was a good line with no probs and that DLM was running on it, but what she would do was manually up the speed gradually to the point that it would be stable.

As she upped the line she had me confirming router status lights extra...THEN DISASTER... the battery in my cordless begain to run out!!!
She kindly said she'd continue to up the speed etc to the point where it woudl hold and phone me back on my mobile.

5 minutes later, she calls me back to say it is now stabilized at 2794.
She did try 3500, but wouldnt hold.

So, to everyone, thanks so much for the help, the advice etc, below are my current stats:

      Code:
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2974 kbps 412 kbps
Line Attenuation 50.0 db 26.9 db
Noise Margin 8.3 db 22.0 db
