Connecting at very slow speeds on Connect

Have been with Sky a couple of months now and no issues for the first 6 weeks, but the last couple of weeks have been absolute rubbish. I usually connect (previous ISP and first 6 weeks of Sky) at around 3500Kbs but for the last 2 weeks have been connected at 1200Kbs and have been getting really slow download speeds because of this - usually get 350KBs from newsgroups but lucky to break 100KBs now. Also browsing is really bad sometimes, all this from the most expensive package!

Unhappy Re: Connecting at very slow speeds on Connect

      I'm in a similar situation.
Been on Connect for about 2 months now, after a few teething problems things were fine.
The last few nights though things have gone to pot. High pings, packet loss, poor speeds etc.
Judging by other posts, seems we're not the only ones too.
I get the impression Sky are washing their hands of us.

To the op, are the speeds fine during the day, and then the connection is bad from 17:00 til about 23:00.

SE - Your getting throttled during peek times, just like me.

I'm definitely getting throttled or capped - I just rebooted the router and this time it connected at 3500Kbs but when I started a download from a newsgroup it only showed a speed of 1000Kbs and the download ran at around 115KBs.

it's peak time traffic shaping - hitting all Connect customers (myself included)...

I wouldn't mind so much if I was a heavy user, but I'm not.
The packet loss certainly doesn't help either.

Sadly you dont have to be a heavy user to be affected. Its a one size fits all policy im afraid.

Sorry for the thread revival, but just got round to running the connection checker. Wondered how the stats look for db as I don't know much about this. It looks like traffic shaping though as during the day its fine, but at 5pm it drops right off.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3424 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 54.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 5.8 db 22.0 db

Hi between 5pm and 12midnight Sky connect is traffic managed you can run a Bt speed test
which will give you you connection speeds your IP profile plus Actual throughput during test. that is what Sky will ask you to do if you ever ring up Some connect Customers are even being throttled through the day because of going well over their 40gb a month allowance

Re: Connecting at very slow speeds on Connect

When its being throttled should the speed in the router stats drop, i.e. 8200kbps down to 4000kbps? MIne never does but it definatly has slowed down when downloading files, even during the day. Pages come up really quickly though, strange!
