      Disconnects

      Hello,

Got a bit of a problem, My internet dropped from 2.5mb to 0.128mb a few weeks ago same time as a crackle on the line so we called out bt who came and replaced connections etc. tested the line etc. now bt are saying the line is fine and to talk to sky which I have done for many hours, being discoonected a few times after waiting an hour etc. to no joy,

I have discovered something to day, the interenet will only sync up when the phone is in use and will disconnect after the phone has been put down for about 5 - 10 min. ???

Never had a call back off sky yet and just got a 60 quid phone bill for calling them and Bt wont come back out without me paying 175 . so gonna leave sky but really need to something in the meantime (without having to have the phone off the hook) .
thinking that setting an old 56k modem to dial every 10 min or so might work.

Anyone any ideas how i might go about doing that ?

(Notes: Sky router into bt test socket with new filter and cable, tested with various phones (wont connect with just the router on its own either) , only one other phone connected, all sky boxes fax etc disconnected at mo)(Done all the sky tests multiple times - been on 3 differant tickets as someone/something keeps closing them after a week )

      Re: Disconnects

You need to call back before the week ends or they get closed as CST believe the fault is no longer there if you are not making contact with them.

      Re: Disconnects

I had the same fault about four years ago, when the phone was in use I would get a connection, when I hung up the connection would die after a few minutes, watching my stats I could see the noise margin dropping slowly until it lost sync.

The fault turned out to be a poor joint at either the pole or the cabinet, when the phone was in use the extra power would bridge the joint and then it would slowly fail again when the power was removed (the phone hung up)

At the time it was a bit of a pig to track down as BT didn't have that many trained ADSL engineers but I was fortunate to get one that looked at all the evidence I had and was happy for me to show him what was happening on my equipment and spent the extra time required to get it sorted.

I have had no problems with it since.

Have a listen to see if there is any noise on the line, it may be worse when it's raining or in the evening so try a couple of different times, If you do get any that's your cue to ring BT again, this time do not mention anything regarding ADSL, they won't care, just complain about the poor voice call, if/when the engineer comes out ply him with tea/coffee etc and explain the fault and also the problems with your broadband connection.

If BT refuse to deal with it you will have to get SKY to call them in, you abviously have a fault so you shouldn't have to pay anyone!

      Re: Disconnects

      hello,

right bt been out say lines fine, sky sent out a new router, now connects at 1024 down 400 up. sky did say it was a fault below 1.5 now they are saying that 1024 is all they can provid and thats it. despite having 2.3-2.5 for over a year.

given up and requested mac code. looking at going to o2, now i did have 2.5 on the sky max (16meg service?) the o2 standard is upto 8meg. now a few years ago i only used to get 512 on 8meg when it was new. and only got 2.5 when i moved to skys max package.

srry waffling so question will going to the o2 8meg service be taking a step backwards or will is it justa cap of 8meg download.

      ?

      Re: Disconnects

The speed you get is dependant on line quality, it may be that something has gone wrong with the line, BT only really care about the telephony side unless you are paying them for BB. Post your attenuation, SNR, downstream and upstream figures.

      Re: Disconnects

It's not so much that Openreach don't care about BB Paul (no matter who the ISP is) but rather who is going to pay for their time. As Openreach never deal directly with domestic retail customers, they only attend when requested by a telephone or BB provider, it is up to the Isp to decide if an openreach visit is required.

after an hour of running noraml internet plus a average amount of bittorent download. please let me know if i need to provide anything else.
thanks (as some might notice I have put my old netgear router back on to get the detailed stats - speeds remain the same as the new router)
