      Come on, anybody?

I heard Be were quite good. I just went to there site and put my postcode in, it said I have an expected speed of 7Mb.

Is anyone with Be, are they any good? Should I switch.

Your problem appears to be line noise - probably local. That won't change if you move ISP.

It looks like your problem is with the external line or exchange. If you have a dial up modem cable with a standard plug, try that instead of using the filter. It is not guaranteed to work, but if it does, take your stats with it. This may rule out a filter problem.

There is no way they can give an accurate estimate with a post code, they can only do that by checking your actual line. By your attenuation, with a giood line you could expect 4-6Mb.

Re: Really bad speed issues with Sky BB Max

I just called sky customer support (the first time I called them, they hung up on me), they told me to do the same thing you guys have been telling me to do; change the filter, unscrew the faceplate, plug it into the test socket.

Still nothing, my stats haven't changed, they seem to be locked at 378 downstream and 409 upstream.

"If you have a dial up modem cable with a standard plug, try that instead of using the filter."

No, I don't have one of those, sorry.

No matter. another cable would probably have made no difference.

Try a quiet line check on your line. Plug a corded phone direct into the Test socket, no filter, dial 17070, option 2 and listen. Your should not hear any noises, snaps crackles or pops. If you do, post back.

Okay, while I was listening I didn't hear any snaps, crackles or pops but I did hear a faint but constant, sort of fizz in the background.

      Is that normal?

I am not sure. Maybe you should wait for a contribution from Brian, who is the phone expert. Being ex-BTO he knows more about this than most of us.

I am at a bit of a loss on this one The low fizz on the line test may just be exchange noise. Be interested to see what Sky come up with.
