Need advice on speed and noise margin

      Hi everyone!
A while ago I was having disconnection issues due to what Sky thought to have been "Speeds that my line could not handle". They set me to 512kbps (crap I know) which has been fine for a few months and I have had no drop outs at all.
Before the noise margin was dropping below 6db when I had problems and then the speed was set to 1.5meg.

This is how it is now:
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 512 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 63 db 31 db
Noise Margin 18 db 13 db

I know I am really far from the exchange, but surely I could get more download speed if the noise margin is that high.

Do you think I should ask them to push me up to 768kbps?
I'm not super technical but what I have read here is that around 6.3db is fine until it drops lower?

I just think my line has settled down as it was new when Sky connected me.
What do you think? I need advice.

      Thanks,

      P

In order to get the best speeds your long line can support you need to make sure your internal set-up is as good as it can be. So how is your router connected to the phone line? does your master socket have a test socket you could try? have you read the cable and faceplate section of this site?.
If you can make some inprovements, then you could contact Sky and see if they will lift the cap and increase your speeds.

Looking at that SNR on your d/s looks like you may be able to get about 2mb if i'm not mistaken.

Phone Sky and ask them to lift the cap on your connection as you have made improvements to your wiring which has increased your noise margin. Plug into your Test socket if you have one and be prepared to be trouble-shot by Tier 1 before being passed to CST.
