Re: Bad ping in the evenings

Actually those figure's are not that great for your line. I predict that you could get a max of 16mbps with sky and get 18mpbs with another supplier. Having said that you are connect to the exchange at the max 8mbps that the connect package offers.
What it looks like is that the line is having errors most likely due to the lower noise margin. Seeing that it is night now, you need to test at the test socket, here is the link for instructions:
Sky User - Help and Support for Sky and Sky Broadband - How to test your Master Socket

Post the stat's that you are getting from there. Looks like your Extension wiring may be inducing some noise. In this case you could disconnect the '3' wire from the removable plate that you take off. It should help, or you could get the I-plate or the NTE-2005 ADSL Nation plate. You may also want to run CSS and see if the situation has improved while plugged into the test socket.

Are you connecting your PC to the router via Ethernet? Maybe there is something along the path of the cable like an electrical device that is switched on in the evening. That would cause a problem.

To add for that the the speed test report a lower speed, I assume that is because of the profile that has been set by BT equipment.
Enter your phone number here and test the line:

It may say that it is busy but just keep on trying, post back the results from that as well.

The line looks setup correctly, was this from the test socket?

Re: Bad ping in the evenings

his line stats are correct as he is on connect and so that will be adsl 1 which has a max speed of 8 meg/sec as this is a rebadged BT product.

As for the pings, as your on connect BT traffic shape during peak times. It also may be due to high server loads during peak times.
I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!
