PC is only 2 years old and it tells me the drivers are all up to date. I think the network card is ok. I have a full set of lights showing on the router.

I have tried uninstalling and disabling all firewalls but didn't make any difference.

I have tried my 6 month old laptop via LAN and couldn't connect via that either. That is what finally pursueded Sky to send me a new router. Just waiting for it to arrive now.

With two machines failing to connect via LAN it has to be a router problem. I'm sure it isnt the first

      Re: Intermittent Broadband Connection

New router has arrived and I can connect via my laptop but not by my PC. The PC can see and ping the router though.

It looks like I might have had more than one problem.

I am now focusing on my PC with the help of Dell. Going from a complete reinstall after I have backed everything up.

OK, I have done a complete reinstall on my PC from operating system up and everything works OK and has been working for the few days. Still very poor speed but that is an issue for another day.

      Re: Intermittent Broadband Connection

Ian, it appears you're suffering the same problems with Skybroadband as I am (See my topic)

Sky have pretty much washed their hands of the problem and said if the (fourth) BT engineer cannot fix the problem then Sky will cancel my account.

My response was fine, I'll cancel my Sky HD package, and telephone and credit card!!!

      Cool Re: Intermittent Broadband Connection

Hi - really new to this forum. Not sure if this is relevant but I've been trying to get info out of SKY to do with my router (netgear V1). Am so far getting lucky with how much info I'm actually getting - think I must be either ending up talking to people with a conscience or who are SO new they don't know what they are & are not supposed to tell their customers.

Seemingly Sky's firmware on their V1 routers is flawed in that it does not maintain a connection to the internet regardless of whether there is activity or not. The firmware on the V2 routers has been debugged & doesn't have this problem.

Tier 3 tech told me this today & then immediately ummed & erred when I asked more questions -- gave the distinct impression he'd said something he shouldn't.....

Sorry if this isn't relevant, or if it's been mentioned elsewhere.

      Re: Intermittent Broadband Connection

The V1s had an auto firmware update done to them a while back to resolve this issue, most if not all V1s should now be on the new firmware.

      Post Re: Intermittent Broadband Connection

Hi - my V1 is still running on the old firmware apparently, and according to SKY yesterday - they aren't sending out updates for V1. If people report problems they're replacing the router with a V2....... that was their party line yesterday afternoon at any rate. Not saying that's obviously what's ACTUALLY happening. LOL I do find (like a lot of people I think) what they say happens & what actually happens don't always correlate.

After I've sorted out my issues (not actually WITH Sky in the first instance) I have every intention of chasing them for a router that's a bit more stable!!

      Re: Intermittent Broadband Connection

Dunno who told you that, I'm guessing a T1 agent, since we do like for like swap outs no T1 can guarantee a V2 swap for a V1 router. If you want the V2 firmware it was on this forum somewhere and you can manually update it if you think its a firmware issue. The White netgear is a very stable router once on the V2 firmware, I run it at home.

What is the number of your firmware? As Paul says, the V1 is pretty good on the new firmware, better than the V2s in my opinion.
